Hello Followers.
Well, earlier in the week, some people out there in blog-o-sphere suggested that losing a game this weekend wasn’t end of the world.
Well, I’m here to tell you all that, barring a miracle run in the conference tournament, this team’s NCAA hopes died in tonight’s 75-62 loss to the Stanford Cardinal.
For a while it looked like the Cougs might complete an amazing second half comeback. And thankfully, as I noted at halftime, Kenny B and staff decided that it JUST might be a good thing to actually try to feed Casto on the low block. The result: Casto hit 9 of 10 from the field and scored 22 points. And as a part of those numbers, we got within 1 point at the 8:30 mark in the second half.
But, from there, it was all Stanford–thanks in part to their timely shooting, some seriously stupid and lazy fouls on Marcus and Moore, as well as some wild and errant three pointers from Klay and Abe Lodwick.
And, in case you were wondering, Casto touched the ball three times between the 8:30 and 2:00 marks in the game. Not enough. Not nearly enough.
In closing, this team still has no consistent offense outside of transition. It doesn’t know how to effectively free and feed the post. It largely has no mid-range game. And, as a whole, it can’t shoot free throws.
And that, my good followers, is a failure of heart, discipline, and coaching.
And so, the brutal saga of underachievement continues toward the CBI or NIT…..
YUCK.
