Pullman Police arrested Klay Thompson last night after pulling over his GMC Envoy just an hour after the Cougars’ thrilling 85-77 victory over the USC Trojans. The officer asked Thompson why the car smelled like marijuana. Thompson adamantly denied he had been smoking, but the officer obtained a warrant and found 1.95 grams of pot in the vehicle. The Envoy was impounded, and Thompson was arrested, then released this morning at 6 a.m.
Head Coach Ken Bone said in a statement earlier this morning that Thompson will be suspended for Saturday’s must-win game against UCLA as they continue to gather facts. With Reggie Moore sitting out last night’s second half against the Trojans with a sprained ankle, the Cougars may be without their top two guards for their biggest game of the season.
As for Thompson, what can we say? The NBA prospect just stabbed every Cougar basketball fan right in the heart. To be arrested for such a small amount of pot, no matter how ridiculous the state laws are, is so unbelievably irresponsible. He jeopardized both his NBA career and his team’s postseason chances. Klay should know better. It was a ridiculously stupid mistake, but as fans, all we can do is absorb this blow and GO OUT AND CHEER THE RESPONSIBLE MEMBERS OF THIS TEAM TO VICTORY ON SATURDAY.
Remember that COUGS STICK TOGETHER. Sure, our chances of winning against the Bruins just took a crushing blow. But sometimes, extraordinary things happen in extraordinary situations. And folks, a short-handed victory tomorrow against the Bruins would be something to tell your kids about 20 years from now. Here’s to a memorable weekend.
Go Cougs!
