JUNIOR junior

Happy Thursday Cougs!!!

If you haven’t heard by now, a couple of days ago Paul Wulff and Co. officially extended a scholarship offer to Trey Griffey, a Florida wide-receiver prospect.  For those of you who have been living under a rock and recognize his last name, but can’t make the association, please refer to the picture above.  If you still can’t figure it out then I’ll put it in plain English for you.  He’s the son of none other than KEN GRIFFEY JR.!!!

It has been no secret that we have been recruiting him.  His dad even said in an interview about a month ago that he was interested in WSU, and will be visiting Pullman this summer along with Oregon.  He has become another piece of this ever growing Florida pipeline the coaches have built.

While his offer list will not jump out at you (Florida International, Florida Atlantic, WSU), he has a chance to have a great senior year.  As a junior last year at West Orange high school, he had a meager 22 catches for 362 yards and 3 TDs.  However, he recently transferred to Florida powerhouse Dr. Phillips High School, the same high school as true freshman linebacker Darryl Monroe, and will have a chance to showcase his talents against some of the best high-school teams in the country.

He stands at 6-2, and 185lbs and reportedly runs a 4.5 forty.  While none of that may jump out at you, his bloodlines CANNOT be ignored.  Yes, we’re not talking baseball here, but anybody that watched Junior in his prime can’t deny that he was the best athlete on the baseball diamond 99.9% of the time.  If he can fill out like his dad did, Trey could be a very well put-together athlete.

This is an intriguing offer, for many reasons.  First of all, wide receiver may just be our deepest position on this football team, and offers to that position will be tight this recruiting cycle.  So I’m guessing the coaches think pretty highly of him to officially extend an offer.  You would have to think that the feeling is mutual as well.  With Ken serving a consulting position now with the Mariners, he will be close enough to watch Trey on Saturdays, and that could be a huge selling point for the coaches.  It will be interesting to see how it plays out.  As one WSU fan put it, it would be great to see Junior at Dad’s weekend!!!

Go Cougs!!!
