With the 11th selection in the 2011 NBA Draft, Klay Thompson has gone to the Golden State Warriors
With tonight’s selection, Klay is the highest Cougar ever drafted in the NBA! Don Collins was the previous top pick for Wazzu, going #18 overall in 1980 to the Atlanta Hawks. Mark Hendrickson went 31st overall the Philadelphia 76ers. Three other Cougs have gone in the second round of the NBA draft. Most recently Kyle Weaver, who went 38th overall to Charlotte in 2008. Brian Quinnett went 50th overall to New York in 1989 and Guy Williams, 34th overall to Washington in 1983.
Tonight Klay’s journey at Washington State University has come to a conclusion and he will begin his profesisonal career in. Klay, you were a treat to watch the last three seasons in Pullman, I am thrilled to watch you mature into an NBA player!
According to an article on Cougfan, NBAdraft.net is forecasting that WSU fan favorite DeAngelo Casto will be taken by Sacramento with the very last pick — No. 60 overall — in the draft. Casto has had workouts with the Kings, Suns, Grizzlies and others in recent weeks.
