Links and Things

Happy Wednesday, Cougar Nation. In case you missed it yesterday, a big milestone was reached in terms of being able to say, “Holy crap it’s almost football season!” That’s right, Pac 12 Media Day was yesterday in Los Angeles. Read on for some riveting media day info and other news on the Cougar radar…

There are plenty of places on the interwebs to find Media Day recaps (here, here and here), but I can sum what all the coaches said like this: “We’ve got a good football team, there are a lot of good teams in the conference, we should be better on offense and defense, that one kid whose hurt may or may not play and I’m not talking about Willie Lyles”. (OK, maybe only one coach said that last thing). The bottom line is Media Days are just big Coach-Speak extravaganzas, but like I said they at least are good for signalling that football games are coming soon. If there is anything newsworthy to come from it, it’s the release of the pre-season media poll. To nobody’s surprise, the Pac 12 media expects the Cougs to finish last in the Pac 12 North. There must be some intrepid reporters out there in the bold prediction business, though because WSU piled up 51 points among the 42 who were pulled. There are some out there (aside from your bloggers here) that thing the Cougs won’t get last in the division! Yay?

Being that this is the Larry Scott era, the fun times didn’t end in the City of Angels yesterday. Coach Wulff and the boys are now in New York getting their picture taking and probably ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange, or whatever else is on tap for the Dog and Pony show this year. Then tomorrow, it’s off to Bristol, Connecticut. Yes, THE Bristol Connecticut. Of course, I’m sure you all know Bristol is the home of ESPN. The Pac 12 coaches will be swarming ESPN media across it’s various platforms tomorrow. Our very own Coach Wulff’s schedule is as follows:

One last thing before I go. The esteemed Ted Miller has kicked off his annual pre-season list of the conference’s 25 best players and the list started with none other than our very own Marquess Wilson. Obviously, there is no tangible reward that comes with being named to the list, but we can all agree that it is not to see a Cougar on it. Perhaps Jeff Tuel will also sneak in, but honestly I’d be surprised. It’d have to be an extremely quarterback heavy list in order for Tuel to be on there since realistically he’d probably be viewed as somewhere around the 5th best QB in the conference. We’ll see, though. More importantly, let’s hope the post-season list is well-represented by the Crimson and Gray.

Go Cougs.
