Vegas Action, New & Improved

Happy Tuesday Cougar Fans, welcome to the new look of my weekly Vegas Action Post.  Instead of looking at lines around the country, I am going to create some fun prop bets that are all related to our upcoming tilt with UNLV this weekend!

But first…

It was great to see all of those who came by our tailgate before the Idaho State game.  The feedback and attitude you brought us was refreshing, so a quick shoutout to SelahCoug, Ambush, Dan Wulff and Nathan (sorry your last name is totally slipping my mind).  And another quick shoutout to SeanHawk’s two boys for coming up to me what seemed like every fifteen minutes and challenging me to shotgun another beer.  I’m still getting over the tomfoolery!

Also, in-case you missed it, lots happened over the weekend on the recruiting front, as two OL pledged the C&G after their official vists.  See here.  As you may recall, I had a bit of concern about the depth on our OL beyond 2011, so it’s nice to see the coaching staff start to close the deal on some roadgraders.

Welcome aboard Sam and Denzell.  Click the jump to take a look at some fun props for the WSU game next weekend that I’ve created, and let me know what you think.

Over/Under 200 Team Rushing Yards

I am going to say Over on this one.  Did you see the box score from that boatrace UNLV was guilty of last weekend?  While Wazzu is not the Wisconsin Badgers, and UNLV should be a much better team than Idaho State, the UNLV DL is mighty small, and I’d like to think our OL will dominate in this one.

Wazzu -14

While not actually a prop bet (prop is short for proposition by the way), this is the opening line that I see offered for Saturday’s tilt.  We covererd last week by just shy of 16 points, I have seen both UNLV and the Cougs play, and I would be shocked if we don’t win by 20 or more in this one.  Take the Cougs and the points in this one.  What do you think?

Marquess Wilson Over/Under 100 Yards Receiving

My heart is telling me to take the over on this one, but Q needed a big time play last week to even be near the triple digit mark in receptions.  We have so many options at WR it’s kinda disgusting, so I would imagine we won’t have to rely on him as our only playmaker.  Seriously, I liked what I saw out of Jared, Bob, Kristoff, Barton, Myers, Eaddy, Gino and Q last weekend, good grief we’re deep.  In fact, I am going to go out on a limb and predict Q doesn’t break 1,000 yards receiving on the season.  But part of that is due to depth at the position, but also to what appears to be a more balanced offensive attack. Take the under, with five catches, 83 Yards, 1 TD sounds about right.

Season Ending Injuries Over/Under 1.5

This has got to be the under here.  I don’t ever recall seeing so many season ending injuries in a Week 1 game in my entire life.  I feel awful for Monroe and Travian who are both lost for the remainder of 2011.  What’s more is Spencer Wasseem may also be lost until 2012, and while hopefuly, we still don’t know the extent of Tuel’s injury.  I hate to say it, but Tony Romo wasn’t exactly nails after he returned from a clavicle injury last year.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that his doctors told him that Romo may or may not elect to have surgery and that, regardless, he would likely miss six to eight weeks of the season. Jones remembers Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman suffering an injury “in the neighborhood” of Romo’s and Aikman missed four weeks. Fortunately, it is Romo’s left shoulder, not his throwing one, Jones said.

Sounds eerily familiar, no?

Over/Under 1.5 Sacks by Da General

It was great to see Mizell flying all over the field on Saturday, and he even notched a pair of Sacks (that’s one more than the entire UW team had against almost 70 dropbacks from Bo Levi Mitchell of Eastern).  One thing I noticed when watching the UNLV/Wisky game was that UNLV QB Caleb Herring did not possess the internal clock that good quarterbacks display.  This lack of timing led him to take a few big hits from Wisconsin’s D.  Cue up Mizell’s suplex, and take the over on this one!

What do you think on some of these?  Have a great Tuesday!
