As some of you have undoubtedly heard, the line on the WSU/SDSU game has dropped all the way down to SDSU -5.5. Considering it opened between 9.5 and 7.5 points in the Aztecs favor, depending on which book you looked at, that means a CRAP TON OF MONEY has come in, in favor of the Cougs. Released on Wednesday’s is the Moneyline, which are the odds paid to each team if you are to pick them as the straight up winners. No spread is involved so greater money is paid when you pick an underdog and they win. Such was the mistake I made in February 2009 while sitting in the Bellagio’s sportsbook. That day, Wazzu and UCLA were tipping of around 1:00pm at Pauley Pavilion. The Cougs were 13 point dogs, and hadn’t beaten UCLA since 2003/2004. I dropped $20 on the Cougs to cover, and only got $19 back when they won the game outright.
Today the Moneyline odds for WSU is +175 for this weekend’s game. That means, if you wager $100 on the Cougs to win the game, you get $175 plus your $100 bet back if they win.
By comparison, the Huskies, who are 16.5 underdogs at Nebraska have +600 odds on the Moneyline. That means a $100 bet nets you $600 plus your original bet back!
The Huskies are triple the underdog we are on Saturday, but get paid 3.5 times more than the Cougs to win straight up.
