Recruiting Roundup

Happy Thursday Cougs!!!

Last week, I predicted that UNLV would come in to Pullman and play the Cougs tight.  Boy was I wrong, and I couldn’t be happier about it.  I can’t wait for the test that lies ahead this weekend.

As well as the Cougs have fared through the first couple of weeks on the field, they’ve fared equally as well on the recruiting trail, picking up four commitments, ALL of which are high school offensive lineman.  This gives us a total of 15 commitments for the 2012 class thus far.  Scholarships will be tight this year for the Cougs, as they are only expected to take 19-20 in this class.

Things figure to be quiet for awhile as WSU will be on the road for the next three games, but you can expect a big group of official visitors for the Stanford game.  Today, I thought I’d give you a breakdown of who might fill the remaining spots in this recruiting class.  Read on…

Again, I expect the Cougs to only take 20 players in this upcoming class.  There are a lot of wild cards at play here, but that number seems to be a safe estimate.  Much to the ire of the Crimson faithful, many of our current commits have openly stated that they will be leaving their options open. This is most likely do to the job status of Paul Wulff.  If the rest of the season bombs and CPW gets the boot, the entire landscape of this class will change.  On the flip side, if we keep winning and it becomes clear that Paul Wulff and Co. are here to stay, this class might fill up VERY quickly.

Running on the assumption that we are taking only five more players, I would make an educated guess that those remaining spots are going to a running back to compliment current commit Terrell Davis, one more offensive lineman, a defensive tackle, a defensive end, and a linebacker/safety prospect.

I compiled a list of recruits at these positions who still hold offers from WSU according to Scout.com, but first a few disclaimers.  First, it is important to note that the status of offers change as spots for a class tighten up so some of these might be inaccurate.  Second, some of these players are listed at one position by Scout, but are offered at a different position by the school. Also, for the sake of consolidation, I left off the players who held offers but had their interest level marked at “low.”  Some of these players have stated their top five and left off WSU, but I kept them on the list in the hope that the Cougs have a great season, gain national recognition, and sneak into the top five of some of the big boys.  So here it is, click on their name to go to their Scout.com profile…
