Pocket Protector Thursday

Hello Followers.  Hope you’re having a great week.

As for me, well, I’ve been putting my nerdy nose to the grindstone this week.

So, if you want to share a good snort laugh regarding what this week’s numbers tell us, then click on the jumperoo.

Followers, because time is short, and because I no longer have a role in prognostication on this here the blog (the Blogfathers beqeathed that responsibility unto the Kahn), I thought it important to help him become more educated in his prognosticology.

And so, with that, I give you today’s first set of numbers:

14, 4, -1, 24, 13, 4.

Wanna know what those numbers represent?

Yep, that is the point differential at halftime in the games in which Utah has won.

So, as you can see, with the exception of Pitt, who scored 14 in the first quarter and then gave up 26 unanswered the rest of the way, when Utah wins, they’re leading at halftime.

****

And now for our second set of numbers:

-3,-3,-3,-20

Wanna know what those numbers represent?

You got it!  That is the point differential at halftime in games in which Utah lost.

So, when you combine these “findings” with the numbes above, you can see, the score at halftime is very predictive of whether Utah wins or loses games.

****

Now, for your third set of numbers:

2, 5, 3, 3, 3, 1

Can you what these numbers signify?

Bingo!  They represent the turnover margin in games in which Utah has won.  So, in games in which Utah has won, they have been in the “plus” side of the turnover margin.  Moreover, as you can see, in four of their six wins, they have been DECIDEDLY on the “plus” side.

****

And for your fourth set of numbers:

2, -4, -5, -4

Yep, that’s the turnover differential in games where Utah has lost. So, outside of USC, you can see that when Utah loses, they tend to turn the ball over as well as NOT turn other teams over…

****

And your final number for today:

34.5

“What’s that?” you ask?  Well, that’s the amount of points per game that the University of Washington allows. So, as they head south to face an offense that (a) Can’t run the ball; and (b) Can’t score when their QB gets pressured, well, the Beavs scoring output is something to pay attention to. Because if the Beavs light it up this weekend, then we should all feel pretty optimistic about our chances in the Apple Cup–even if this weekend’s result isn’t ideal.

Okay, that’s it for today.  The Kahn will be back tomorrow for his pick and keys for this Saturday’s game.

Go Cougs!
