Wazzu Morning Drip – Recruiting Edition

Happy Tuesday Coug Nation, and as always we hope things are good in your world.

So after the last few days, seems that things are picking up a bit on the WSU recruiting front??  It's hard to keep track of all the news, but let's take a quick look, shall we?

Based on the latest look at the commit list via Cougfan, there are several new commits over the last few days – defensive end Emmitt Su'a-Kalio, defensive end Lyman Faoliu, and cornerback Daquawn Brown.  But as of last night, you can also now add the name of JC O-lineman Jacob Seydel, who just committed yesterday.

Add it all up, that's four new commits in basically the last four days.  And of all the new names over these last few days, the name Daquawn Brown might be the one that makes you sit up and pay attention a little bit?

Yeah, we know – you never want to get too high/too low over the whims of recruiting.  Some of you are WAY TOO COOL to care, we know that.  And you might get a commit today, but in a week said recruit might be tweeting a different tune.  Year after year it happens, so you sort of become numb to the whole thing.  So you never want to get too jacked over who says they will probably sign with the crimson-n-gray in February, know what I'm saying?

But Brown might be a little different, in that he is actually looking to choose WSU over several other Pac-12 schools who have reportedly offered him a full ride.  Just check out his list of schools and offers, such as ASU, Cal, UCLA and UW, and you can see what I mean.

And to the "we didn't want him anyway!" crowd at UW or ASU or any other school that offered him?  Please, bear with us.  See, we just don't normally get a W in these kinds of so-called recruiting "battles", so if we get a little excited please understand.  Sometimes it's hard to act like you've been there before when you, well, when you just haven't been there a whole lot.

After the latest tally, WSU is now at around the 21-commit mark, give or take a commit or two (it's such an inexact science, commitments, that you just can't ever be totally sure if every verbal commit is really going to be there in February?).  If you are in to recruiting rankings, WSU is nosing their way into the low-40's overall, and right around 7th in the Pac-12.  Not exactly worthy of closing down Main St and throwing a parade, but hey, it's progress when you consider WSU finished in the 50's in recruiting the last two years.

Other quick links for this morning:

Andrew Furney, All-Pac-12!  Well, at least by CBS Sports anyway, as Furney was second team by the Pac-12 coaches this year.  But Furney did get the nod by Teddy Miller's ESPN blog!  So there's that, which is a very good thing.  Deone Bucannon joined Furney on the ESPN Pac-12 team, also very cool.

Furney's field goal percentage wasn't all that great this year, as he went 14-for-20 on the season for 70% after going 14-for-16 in 2011.  But he had a huge Apple Cup of course, with three big kicks in the fourth quarter and OT to give the Cougs the W.  Congrats to Furney!

Finally in hoops, congrats Brock Motum.  The big Aussie is your Pac-12 player of the week after averaging 23 points, 6 boards and 2 blocks in his last couple of games.  Motum even went 7-for-10 from 3-pt range, impressive to say the least.  Congrats Motum!

All for now.  Enjoy your Tuesday, and GO COUGS!
