Tuesday Morning Deep Thoughts

Hello Followers.  Hope you’re having a great week.

While last night’s overwhelming performance by Alabama put an end to the 2012 College Football season, we here at the WSU Football Blog have our eyes focused squarely on 2013.  For a few, deep thoughts –quick hit style—click on the jumperoo.

Last night, Cougfan ran with some news that accompanied Bill Moos’ weekly call-in show.  The first bit of news is that WSU is expected to a host a Thursday night ESPN game this fall.  While I am personally excited about the opportunity to stay up til 3:00am…

that game will mean that there will be only TWO conference games played on Saturdays in Martin Stadium (in a 4-5 split, we have one Thursday game and then the Seattle game against Oregon State which leaves two).  So, if you’re a big fan of Cougar football Saturdays on the Palouse, you’ll have only four to choose from this year.  Yikes!

Moos also suggested that Leach was hot on the trail of two “BIG TIME” assistants with an announcement coming in the next few days.  Of course, I’m hoping that one of those guys will be Bob Gregory, but with Boise State’s new sweetheart deal with the Mountain West, the Broncos are going to have BOAT LOADS of money to help Peterson and all of his Assistants stick around.

Back to the Thursday night game….One has to think that ESPN is going to be slating games in order to generate as much national intrigue (e.g. ratings) as possible.  So, when you consider how incredibly unfavorable our 2013 schedule is with road games against the likes of Auburn, SC, Oregon, CAL, and Washington, putting a potentially struggling WSU team on the docket later in the season represents a potential ratings killer.

Remember that Time I Raided Al Capone's Vault?

So, here’s to thinking that WSU takes Washington’s place in hosting Stanford for a Thursday game in September.  As Jesse Palmer noted on Mike and Mike in the Morning Today, Stanford figures to be a pre-season top 5 team in 2013, so it will be interesting to see whether we’ll be able to get the Air Raid or Hair Raid off the ground on the National Stage like Washington did against the Trees in September this past year,.

Okay, that’s all the time I have for today.  Don’t know about you all, but today I felt a bit lighter after finally putting a very disappointing 2012 College Football Season to bed.  Here’s to better days and times ahead, right?

All for now.  Go Cougs.
