Arguing for Larkin and Trammel

There’s one HUGE problem with this piece: It lumps Larkin and Trammel together, but Lark was a vastly superior player.

Larkin’s candidacy is strengthened by the fact that he made twice as many All-Star teams as Trammell (12-6). That could be cited as a reason to vote for Larkin and not Trammell. On measure, though, these are two very similar candidates.

If you check the comprehensive archive at Baseball-Reference.com, the No. 1 statistical comparison for Trammell is Larkin. And the No. 1 comparison for Larkin is Trammell.

“Trammell and Larkin,” Eckersley said, “are real close.”

In 350 fewer at bats:

Larkin had 2 fewer runs, 25 fewer hits, 13 more HR, 57 fewer Ks, 89 more walks, hit .013 points higher, slugged .029 higher, had a .019 better OB, stole 166 more bases while being caught 32 FEWER times.

Barry Larkin is similar to, but markedly better than Alan Trammel.
