My report last night detailing Aire Justin’s positive drug test has drawn a small dose of criticism and the attention of cougfan.com message boards less than 24 hours after I posted the article. However, I stick by my source(s) who told me the senior-to-be is in trouble with the NCAA.
Nonetheless, a few new bits of information have come forward about the case, which are outlined below:
– Justin has been practicing throughout the spring because he is in the process of appealing his suspension to the NCAA. He is aiming to get the suspension reduced or reversed completely.
– Justin, according to a source within the program, didn’t test positive for steroids. However, he did test positive for a steroid-based substance he did not know was in the supplements he was taking. This seems very likely considering the fact he only weighs 160 pounds. Personally, I don’t believe Justin knowingly tried to cheat or deceive the NCAA. With all the over-the-counter supplements easily accessible to college athletes, it isn’t hard to see how a player looking to take a protein supplement packed with ingredients unchecked by the FDA would test positive for a substance banned by the NCAA.
– In regards to Bomber’s injury- The special teams drill he participated in didn’t necessarily contribute to his torn ACL. Bomber simply made a cut, and for whatever reason his right knee gave out. The situation was a prime example of a non-contact injury.
I will continue to monitor the Justin situation as it unfolds and provide readers with the most accurate, honest news and analysis I’m capable of.
