Well put this blog under the no s$%t category. Darcy Reiger told the BTN today that he doesn’t except the Sabres to make any more trades (as if they made some) and what you see is what you get.
“The conversations over the summer, we’ve talked about players with other organizations, but I think now the teams have taken, to a large extent, [the philosophy of], ‘We’ve got this group, and we’ll go into camp and assess things as we go through training camp.”
Darcy of course used the same excuse he’s been using for decades now it seems. The Sabres can’t make any moves because of the economic climate of the NHL.
“It just revolves around the actual [salary] cap or internal organizational caps,” he said. “I would say to a large extent the league has oversigned players. The team’s best players are normally not available for trade, and to the extent that underperformers are out there, in a lot of cases they have contracts that teams don’t want to pick up. It’s made it very difficult to find a match.”
Now before you start sending me your hate mail about how Darcy is correct and I’m a hack. Check out these numbers, since July 1st the NHL has had over 150 FA signings and 23 trades. I don’t know about you, but you can’t blame the economy or the salary cap on everything if teams are being active. I’m going to say this, this is Darcy’s and Lindy’s last chance. The honeymoon has gone on too long for the duo and if this team doesn’t make the playoffs someone needs to pay. Normally, a rebuilding NHL project should take about 3 years to show progress. Progress is making the playoffs, especially in a league where it seems as if every team gets in at some point or another. Obviously I’d love it if Golisano and Quinn would sell the team to someone who doesn’t count their pennies as if they are homeless. But that doesn’t seem to be happening.
Don’t worry anti-Bills fans, once the season starts my venom will be high if the team stinks.
