Stafford skating, but not signed

Drew Stafford is taking part in the Sabres’ on-ice testing this morning in HSBC Arena, but a member of the public relations department said there has not been a contract agreement with the restricted free agent.

Mind of Joe
Good for Stafford to decide to train with the players even though he’s not signed. It’s a risk of course, which I’m sure his agent wasn’t to thrilled with. But practicing with his teammates not only gets him ready for the season, but puts the public opinion in favor of the Sabres giving Stafford a new deal. Of course, what I’ve been reading on the net is Stafford wants 4 million dollars a year, which is ludicrous. The dude has scored 20 goals only once in his career. I’m thinking 4-years, 12 million would be fair. I think the Sabres and Stafford will get something done, considering he’s training with the club.
