He declined the penalty and Rob Bironas kicked a 51-yard field goal which iced the game. Here is why the call was so idiotic!
1) It proves how Jauron is completely scared to put the game in the hands of his players. It was almost a copy cat scenario of what happened in the final minutes of the Cleveland game last year, where Jauron went conservative on the game-winning drive. Today, he didn’t want his defense to win the game for him, instead, he put the omen on the Titans to lose it. Didn’t happen.
2) The field goal completely took the air out of the sails of the Bills players. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that there is no way in hell the Bills can score 10 points in three minutes. If I know that, then so do the Bills players, and it showed. The two interception returns for touchdowns were more about a team that had completely lost focus, than a defense that was making plays. Again, Jauron should of let his defense win the game. It could of been a stand that would of propelled the Bills to seize all of the momentum.
3) When the opponent’s kicker has a field goal on his resume of 60 yards, a 51-yard field goal is quite doable.
4) Look, I know Chris Johnson was running all over the Bills today, but there aren’t a lot of plays in the playbook that can get you a first down on a 3rd and 16. Why not throw the dice and see if you can either get a sack or push them to a 55-yard field goal. Your facing Vince Young, not Tom Brady. Again, Jauron just doesn’t understand what killer instinct is.
