Plus, Whitner has always seemed to be lagging in pass coverage skill and has never lived up to his 9th overall draft status. I’ll be frank, as much as I’ve picked on Whitner for not getting interceptions or ever seeing him really make an impact on the field, I’ll be a little saddened if he ends up leaving. You can tell that the guy really cares about trying to get the Bills out of the cellar that they have been inhabiting for over the last 10 years. When I read that Donte Whitner was crying in his locker room after the Bills opening night lost against the Patriots, I couldn’t help but feel bad for the poor guy.
Unfortunately, he’s becoming expendable and it’s important for the Bills to get some sort value for him. Now, if the Bills get something like 4th rounder, I’ll vomit and declare that the team is on the brink of cutting expenses to clear a move to Toronto or LA. I think he’s worth a second rounder or a decent player in return.

So much for Terrell Owens making the Bills “relevant” again. In case you missed it, NBA analyst Charles Barkley took a shot at Terrell Owens and the Bills during the NBA All-Star skills competition in Dallas.
Owens was in attendance for the event on Saturday night (Which happened to have the worst slam dunk contest in the history of mankind). When shown in the crowd on TNT, Barkley commented, “Man I didn’t know T.O. was still alive.” When asked by another analyst why, Barkley followed, “Man nobody watches the Buffalo Bills play, give me a break. You think they ever showed the Buffalo Bills?” When told that the Bills where shown early in the season when Owens first started, Barkley joked, “how did that turn out!”
As usual, a television station in Buffalo decided to take the comments a step further (Cough: WGRZ)by asking the readers or viewers to do the following:
If you don’t agree with Barkley comments, email Channel 2 and we’ll forward your thoughts onto TNT and Charles.
Should we send emails to ESPN analysts for saying “the Bills are the Raiders of the east?” Should we e-mail Al Roker for saying “it’s another cold day in Buffalo, but their use to snow?” Sorry, but go ask tough questions like why NYS taxes are so high and why does your local news consist of three minute sportscasts that have absolutely no opinion or astute observations about the Bills or Sabres.
Even though everyone who has watched an NFL game is saying that Williams shouldn’t play NT in a 3-4 defense, the unconventional wisdom of the Buffalo Bills brain trust, tells me not to be surprised if Williams is your starting undersized nose tackle for the 2010 NFL season. If you don’t think the Bills are contemplating having Williams as their NT, just ask Chan Gailey?
Don’t think that the guy that plays nose has to be a 330 or 340 pound guy,” said Gailey. ”We’re not going to take good football players and stand them over there beside me on game day. We’re going to put our best players on the field. If you have to put a smaller guy on the field to play there then you move him and do some different things with him. There are a lot of different ways to skin the cat and that’s what we’ll do. We’ll get our best football player on the field and let them play.” -Chan Gailey on 103.3 The Edge-
Like I said, square peg in round a hole.
