Now, before I go on with my topic about trading Jackson, instead of Lynch, I want to make something clear: I don’t mind the Bills having three running backs on this roster. Honestly, it’s not about trying to get the Fred Jackson package on the field, as Chan Gailey would say. It’s about the fact that the Bills aren’t going to get much in return for one of their backs. If they are lucky, they might get a conditional 3rd round pick. Plus, having three running backs on the team, mainly Lynch, doesn’t tick me off like it does to others.
Anyways, if the Bills are entertaining the thought of dealing Lynch or Jackson, I’m going with Jackson for being on the trade block. So far this season, I’ve seen Marshawn Lynch run with a purpose and is actually showing patience in letting holes open up. I’m seeing a running back pound the ball inside and break tackles. I’m seeing Beast mode circa 2007. Lynch is averaging almost 5 yards a carry on the season and was a vital part in the offense’s 30 point explosion against New England.
Look, I’ll be upfront, if the Bills decided to deal Lynch, I’m not going to kill myself because of it. I like Jackson. He’s a good story and a nice running back, who deserves to start in this league. However, for fans and media members to just assume that Lynch has to be the guy that needs to be dealt is a little short sighted. It’s a debate that should be heard. Everyone knows that the reason why some fans and especially members of the media have been pushing for Lynch to get out of town is because of his baggage. On the media front, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the press can’t stand Lynch because he doesn’t talk to them.

Hell, go back to May when everyone was up in arms about Lynch not being at the first set of those stupid OTAs, yet, he ended up showing up later. Of course, I’ve mentioned countless times at how the press core had a double standard towards Lynch, as they didn’t even make a big deal about Aaron Schobel holding the team hostage during the summer. Oh, and as I’ve said before, Lynch has been clean for the last 20 months. So, he deserves some benefit of the doubt instead of being called a punk on a daily basis.
The bottom line in all of this is that Lynch is a better running back than Jackson. More importantly, I think the combo of Lynch and CJ Spiller would keep defenses off balance because their styles are totally different. Lynch can pound the ball inside and wear defenses down, while Spiller can be that home run threat. It’s your classic thunder and lightning approach. As for Jackson, he does a lot of nice things, but if you are going to have a 1-2 punch, you want the backs to be different. Jackson is just too down the middle with his skills in comparison to the other backs.
Again, I’m not saying that the Bills have to trade someone, hell, I wouldn’t even raise a stink if Jackson or Lynch get traded, but it would behove the Bills to see what they can get for either guy, and not make it into a one man audition.
