Bills TE Nelson Primed for Return – Canadian Press
“I’ll be ready. I’m more than sure I’ll be ready,” Nelson said. “It’s no fun at all sitting at home watching when you know you can be out here helping these guys win and trying to make plays.”
Nelson was eligible to be activated prior to Buffalo’s loss to Jacksonville in Week 5, but two days before the game he tweaked the groin that he had surgery on. The Bills used their one-game exemption for him before officially placing him on the 53-man roster on Oct. 11. He missed practice all last week, but returned Monday.
“As far as the playbook, I feel like I’m on the same page, but it’s different when you’re watching film and looking in the playbook rather than actually being on the field and running the plays and everything,” he said. “So, I think that’s going to be the biggest key for me, just getting back in football shape.”
My Take – Shawn Nelson is pound-for-pound one of the most physically gifted players on the Bills’ roster, and even though the offense hasn’t been the issue, Nelson’s presence instantly creates problems down the seam – that is, if Chan Gailey decides to utilize him frequently. If Nelson emerges, that’s one less hole Buffalo will have to fill in their rebuilding process. They’ve received little to no production from their tight ends this year, while tight ends are flourishing around the rest of the league.
Ravens S Ed Reed Set To Return to Practice On Wednesday – Baltimore Sun
“Reed has been on the physically unable to perform list because of offseason hip surgery, which meant he had to miss the first six weeks of the regular season.
Harbaugh couldn’t guarantee whether Reed would play Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. He said it’s “up in the air” whether Reed would start or be limited Sunday.
“We’ll just see how he goes,” Harbaugh said. “I think it’s going to be something that we’re going to have to figure out.”
Barring a setback, it is believed that Reed is set to play Sunday against the Bills at M&T Bank Stadium.
Harbaugh complimented the play of the Ravens’ pass defense without Reed. But the Ravens have made only three interceptions in the first six games, which could change with a ball hawk like Reed.
My Take – Ray Lewis warned Buffalo about the upcoming game this weekend after their overtime loss in New England. The last thing the Bills need is ball-hawking, hard-hitting safety Ed Reed to return to Baltimore’s lineup. He’ll probably won’t be as quick to the ball as usual, but with Ryan Fitzpatrick’s inaccuracy, Reed could have a field day and thwart Bills’ drives all afternoon. His impact won’t be major, but the Ravens will certainly benefit if Reed is on the field.
Where Is C.J. Spiller in the Bills’ Offense? – ESPN’s AFC East blog
“He’s explosive, but get the ball into his hands other than special teams. He had five carries [Sunday]. That’s not enough. He and Fred Jackson … Fred Jackson, only 12 carries. They both averaged over 6 yards per carry. They need to get that run game going in Buffalo because the passing game certainly isn’t working.”
My Take – That quote came from NFL analyst and former player Jon Ritchie. He’s not entirely correct, because the passing game hasn’t been all that bad. However, I do agree with his opinion about the lack of carries being given to Spiller and Fred Jackson.
Spiller only has 19 carries for 80 yards and no touchdowns this year and has hauled in 13 catches for 48 yards and one touchdown. That’s not enough. Stick to the run, please.
Bills put their trust in OT Cordaro Howard – Buffalo News
Cordaro Howard’s rise in the professional football ranks has been rapid.
He has gained the trust of the Buffalo Bills’ coaching staff as he climbed from undrafted free agent to NFL starter just six weeks into his rookie season. He’s expected to make the first start of his career Sunday at right tackle when the Bills visit the Baltimore Ravens.
“This is a big opportunity to start in the NFL,” he said. “I just plan on going out there and taking advantage of it. I’ve been preparing for a few weeks now, spelling all those guys out.”
Howard, 6-foot-4 and 314 pounds, will start in place of right tackle Cornell Green, who was hurt as the Bills lost to Jacksonville and is out for the foreseeable future.”
My Take – Thank. The. Lord. Cornell Green was killing drives for the Bills, and although Howard is an un-drafted free agent, it’ll be hard for him to be worse than Green. He’s seen action in the past two games, but it’s time to give him a start and see how he performs. Yea, it’ll be difficult against an agitated Ravens’ defense, but if he can grow as a player, the Bills could be on to something with Howard.
