The Briefing: Christmas edition

First off, I’d like to wish you all Happy Holidays! If it wasn’t for my readers, I’d still be writing this blog 😉

-If you didn’t think the Sabres were toast before the Derek Roy injury…NOW they are officially burnt toast. Now, in similar situations across the NHL, a hockey team would at least try and make a move. Right now, your two top centers are out, you can’t score when it really counts and I don’t think you can have Luke Adam or Nathan Gerbe carry the load. However, it’s the Sabres. A team that will never, EVER trade their prospects from the farm system. It makes me laugh, because if Regier is as good at scouting young talent as he claims to be, then why not trade them and find new prospects down the road?-

-BTW, don’t think for one second that the PR Shills at Seymour Knox Plaza aren’t putting together a list of games lost due to injury, so that Darcy and Quinn can use that as the excuse for why the Sabres are sitting home come April-

-In case you aren’t following me on twitter (Which you should!), I went to the past two Sabres games and have to say that it was a blast. OK, I was semi-intoxicated, as those beers that they give to you are so fricken big! I thought the atmosphere there was actually pretty lively. You know what I think fans need to do? Come up with creative cheers. When I went to the Sabres vs Islanders game last year, I expected it to be a library, but I was actually surprised because the fans had creative cheers about the Rangers and so on. How about we just do creative chants? “Blow Leafs, Blow….Poutine sucks…(Ben) Affleck sucks…Fire Darcy”-

-When the hell is this guy going to buy the Sabres!? Also, don’t you find it funny how during this entire regime of Quinn and Golisano, the catchphrase for them had been about “winning multiple cups.” Yet, they are cashing out without accomplishing that goal. Um, yeah…they really wanted the Cup that badly. More like a cup filled with money.

-Look, I haven’t talked about this yet, but I’m about World Juniors out by now. Look, I’m trilled that they picked our city to do this at, as they are pumping in a ton of money into the economy. However, I don’t know? I just…I don’t want to say it without sounding like a douche, but it’s minor league hockey and only 2-3 of these kids will make it into the NHL. Also, don’t try and BS me into thinking that this is a top 8 event in the world, like the hosts on WGR were saying. Maybe it is, but I’m in America, and if I were to walk down the streets of NYC, it would be very hard for me to find anyone who knew a thing or two about the WJ. Bottom line: If this thing wasn’t in Buffalo, I wouldn’t even know it was happening-

-Also, what is the over/under on mentions of Kassian and Foligno being the next big thing during this Tourney? You know the Sabres will overexploit their positives to the 10th degree-

-I am so ready for Sunday’s game! Not only because I’m going to it, but that a win against the Pats would be a defining moment. A measuring stick. Something, that in a perfect world, we can look back five years from now with a couple division titles around our waist and say that Sunday’s game was the turning point. I hate the Pats. I’m sick of losing against them and I want this streak to end. I want to be able to come home drunk, and watch Football Night in America and see the highlights. I want to see Berman on The Blitz, and go through the highlights as if they are playing in the Super Bowl. Trust me, this is a big game-

-Hey, maybe this will be the week that Spiller breaks out. His best performance this season came against the Pats, where he ran a kickoff return for a touchdown and scored on a reception-

-Good to hear that Ralph Wilson was in the locker room after Sunday’s win. At least we have one owner who actually shows up. Anyways, I was happy to hear that Ralph has realized that this team has been drafting like complete garbage over the last 10 years. However, maybe someone should tell him that Tom Modrak has been there for the majority of them. Look, I know that some people have said that he didn’t have a say as to who gets drafted. Even still, I kind of wish I could put my finger on who was responsible for the last 4-5 drafts. Whatever, at least Ralph was there-

-So, Bill Belichick still thinks that Josh Reed is on team? Or does he? I know, The hoodie would never dare call out anyone from another team, but, he did have Josh Reed in for a free agent visit in March. I guess it was just a slip. Even still, lets use it for Bulletin Board Material!-

-BTW, I’m storming the field on Sunday if we win!-
