Shelby Says…Column One

Shelby Says...Column One

I’m starting a new column today where I’m going to attempt to predict what will happen in the wacky world of the National Hockey League. These past few days have certainly been crazy with three coaches being fired from their teams, and today Mike Grier retired from the sport (Thanks for the run, Mike!). This will be a weekly column and it’s meant to be fun so don’t get angry with the possibly stupid predictions I will make.

Okay, here we go!

Red Wings @ Sabres (December 2nd, 2011)

Drew Miller and Ryan Miller will probably not play during this game. That means one more matchup where we won’t possibly see the younger Miller score on his older brother. It’s okay Drew, you got the Cup before Ryan did. You have that at least.

– This is going to be the Pavel Datsyuk show. I bet he at least has two points on the night, one of them being a nifty goal thanks to his ‘violent deke’ as it was said on Versus the other night I think.

– Thomas Vanek will score a goal which will be the game winner because I won’t be watching any of this game. You’re welcome.

– Oh yeah, Ville Leino will score a goal too. It’ll be a fluke, just like his goal against the Senators a few weeks ago. Earning that paycheck.

– Sabres win this one by a score of 4-3.

Sabres @ Predators (December 3rd, 2011)

– I predict the Preds will wear their new third jerseys during this game. I still don’t know how I feel about those yet. Anything is better than the Islanders third though, hoo boy.

– Shea Weber rips a shot from the point and someone on the Sabres gets hurt. A forward. Like we need anyone else to go down.

– Nathan Gerbe will score a goal during this game.

– The Preds will score a goal but it will be waved off due to the whistle blowing the play dead before the puck goes into the net.

– I’m not seeing the Sabres winning this one but I do see them getting a point in an overtime loss.

Flyers @ Sabres (December 7th, 2011)

– I would predict Brad Boyes scoring a goal since I have seen a lot of his goals in person but since he’s hurt…I’ll say Ville Leino scores another!

– Since I am attending this game and I was at the other Flyers game, I predict a Sabres win. 4-2.

– Paul Gaustad gets into a fight and manages not to break his hand or lose.

– Jason Pominville scores a nifty shorthanded goal on a breakaway.

– Daniel Briere gets held off the scoresheet.

And those are some of my stupid, yet fun, predictions for the Sabres this upcoming week. If any of these become true, I’m really not psychic. I should come up with a disclaimer for this in case any Sabres actually do get hurt…if that happens, I’m sorry.
