The Buffalo Bills & The Miami Dolphins played a professional tackle football game last night and here are my thoughts on The Bills19-14 victory:
MVP: Jairus Byrd- 4 Tackles, a fumble recovery, and the most beautiful interception I've ever seen a Buffalo Bills defender make in a long, long time. He is separating himself as the Bills' best defensive player weekly. By the end of the year he will probably lap the field. Byrd is a lock for the Pro Bowl and should be a first team All- Pro. He's right now the best FS in the NFL. Someone tweeted: "If Teddy KGB were watching this game, he would say this about Jairus 'Pay dat man his money'". The Bills will probably put the franchise tag on him, which works because I believe it would be fairly cheap.
Co-MVP: Leodis McKelvin- also a Free Agent, played very well last night. Not just recording his 2nd Punt Return for a TD this year (And 5th TD of his career), but he played very well defensively. The Bills are set for another busy off season. Byrd, McKelvin, Andy Levitre, and Kyle Moore all are due for new contracts. I don't think Buffalo can afford to lose any of them.
Chan Gailey: The Bills should've and could've won this game by 21 plus points if not for the mind boggling play calling of Chan Gailey. Spiller had 25 touches for 130 yards. 5.2 yards per handle. The Bills ran 11 plays in the red zone last night and CJ Spiller touched it once. ONCE! Tashard Choice touched it TWICE in the Red Zone. This is where I remind you that CJ Spiller was the 9th pick and 1st overall of the Nix/Chan era. Spiller said last night on the NFL Network set: "I hope I answered my critics." Uh CJ, the only critic I see is your head coach. The way this game was going, CJ should've touched it 30-35 times.
My favorite sequence last night was the Bills last play call before half: 1st and Goal on the 1 yard line with 6 seconds to go. Scott Chandler who is 6'7 going 1-on-1 with Dolphins CB Reshad Jones, who is all but 6'1. And instead of throwing a fade or a jump ball, the Bills ran a slant. Jones played it well and knocked it down. And yet another FG is kicked. Also, the 3rd and 1 pass to Chandler in the 1st quarter that was nearly picked off by Dansby was a very questionable play call. Why didn't Chan go for it on 4th and 1 on the 16? You're at home. Miami's offense did nothing up till that point and you settle for a FG? Chan did a great job of coaching not to lose instead of coaching to win.
How the Bills' brass can bring this clown back for another year is beyond me. Chan's fascination with Tashard Choice is incredible. The last drive before half, Tashard was in on six straight plays. Huh?! Lastly, Chan improved his record in the AFC East to a crowd pleasing 3-13. Fitz is now 3-12 vs AFC East.
NFL Network: The guys on the NFLN wanted the viewer to believe that the game last night was the coldest game in the history of the NFL. It was 32 degrees outside. For some in these parts that's still shorts and t-shirt weather. Funniest moment of the night was when Mariucci tried to put his gloves on and realized that he had 2 left handed gloves. I laughed. Nessler and Mayock were great as always, and it was nice to hear Mayock call out Choice when he alligator armed a 3rd Down pass from Fitz.
These Thursday Night games are brutal. The NFL will never admit it, but this was a bad idea. If the Bills weren't playing, I wouldn't have even watched. In fact, during the second half I bailed out for a bit to watch the Knicks vs Spurs game, which was far more exciting than the Bills game.
Twitter Fool of the Night: *cracks knuckles* Jeremy White of WGR– From my understanding, Jeremy White was at the game last night, presumably in the press box "covering" the game for the Home of The Buffalo Bills. Why Jeremy picked the second half of the Bills game to get into a twitter shoving match with twitter clown Darren Rovell is beyond me or anyone who follows him ( I would link, but I don't want anybody to have to suffer to see it again). I understand it's Jeremy's twitter account and he can do what he wants with it.
Having said that, there are people who actually look to White for his thoughts and takes on the game at hand, and for the most part he does a good job. But his epiphany last night that Rovell sucks was ill timed and ridiculous. Look, I know this game was far from exciting, but you're getting paid to cover this game, not to tell your followers something we already know. Jeremy White is so late to the "Rovell Sucks" party that I believe he may be the last one standing. Turn off the light's when you leave, Mr White.
Final bow: Bills are now 4-6 and in second place of the AFC East (LOL!). Now what? The Bills travel to Indy to face their 3rd rookie QB of the season. However, Andrew Luck is on a far different level than Weeden or Tannehill. Luck has a good defense behind him and one of, if the not the best WR in the league right now (Reggie Wayne). The Bills will have a solid 9 days off to prepare and rest. Looking at the Bills schedule, this is their last real test of the season. The month of December opens up for them. If they can be 5-6 going into the Jacksonville game, they would be setting themselves up for a potentially strong finish.
