One Fan(n)’s Opinion By @RDotDeuce: Bills – Cowboys Recap and Holiday Tweet Bag

The Bills 16-6 win over the Cowboys was in many ways an extended scrimmage. Between the starters missing, the lack of effort in terms of tackling and coverage and the mistakes by both sides, fans certainly got less than their “gold ticket” face value for the game. And, as it has been the last 16 seasons, it was a December win that had 0 meaning in the long run. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Since we’re still in the Christmas weekend, I’m going to make this as brief as I can for all of us. Here’s my thoughts:

  • Third and Long isn’t a problem for any Offense – The fact that a team with their 4th QB could complete a 3rd and 19 on your defense, injuries or no is shameful. As Rex prepares his next Clemson-themed joke before the NCAA Playoff, I hope he thinks about simplifying some of his checks and calls or there will be more of the same next year. Unless the cap space created by Mario’s ouster is used solely to sign all of his ex-Jets, there will be rookies that start on the defense – most likely at either defensive line or linebacker. Having to call timeouts with 10 defenders, as well as big plays by Dallas while defenders look and yell at each other are things that have to stay in 2015.
  • 7-11 Might Need a Relocation – Chris Hogan, key block notwithstanding, has been a bit of a liability with the deep shots recently. If the Bills are going to build a Tyrod-friendly offense while re-doing the defense in Rex’s image, they need reliable receivers that can run deep. Tyrod, like Flacco needs that to put he fear into the defense. Right now, a throw to Hogan is a dice roll; he needs to get someone other than Sammy Watkins or Percy Harvin (early) to assist in that.
  • The Right Side Tho – If there’s anything that Doug Whaley needs to do, it’s as soon as he can get Glenn and Incognito sorted out fixing the right side. Right now, unless Incognito is pulling or Urbik is in for the now-safe-to-say oft-injured Miller, it’s a mess. Whatever you think of the QB, having that side of the line cripple drives goes a long way towards stunting Tyrod’s chances to develop on-field.
  • Mario’s Good-bye Game – If you watched the game, you’ll notice that Mario did in fact drop a good bit. Instead of 1-2, Mario dropped back no less than 5 times by my count, and that’s not including a play where he was flexed out to cover a player wide. If that’s not a pseudo middle finger, I don’t know what is. Mario, in turn gave what BeauxJackson on twitter accurately dubbed as the “I got four hours before the holiday weekend” effort. Good luck on your next team Mario, I will not forget the prior 3 seasons my dude.

As I mentioned, the holidays have depleted the ole’ Tweet bag, but we did get some submissions. Enjoy:

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsSome of it goes back to the “insurgents” stuff of last week. Until the Pegulas do what’s going on currently in Arizona with the Suns – top to bottom interviews and evaluation – it’s going to continue. There are people in the organization that are more interested in being proven right than doing right by the team.

That’s what the Bills have to do. This goes further than just a GM and Coach not getting along. You got guys like Bill Polian in the wings with people he hired, as well as folks that yearn for him and the “good ole days” to be back at the cost of moving forward. We’ve seen Buddy, we’ve seen Marv. We do not need another ex Bill personnel guy (or their progeny) playing fantasy football with the team. Count this also as a preemptive “do not draft Chad Kelly” post as well. Again, I want no part in those articles nor the bulletproof nature he’d have in Buffalo.

I am not a fan that’ll think less of you. In fact, Joe’ll probably fire me VKM style when I say I want and expect the Bills to lose to the Jets next week. Badly. The reasoning is simple – Rex needs to get his nose rubbed in this. And he has to realize there are 12 other games on the schedule besides the Jets and Patriots that will determine the season. Because if he doesn’t 2017 will be getting rung in with a new coach, super contract or not.

Speaking of the Jets, the game may be flexed to the 4 or Sunday Night Football late spot next week. So if you are a glutton, or just a fan of watching to see if they’re going to run for the bus (raises) hand, it could be an interesting one. Happy New Year!
