Rich and I have decided to do another mock draft together. This time, I took the odd numbers and he took the evens. Want to complain about the Bills pick? Yell at me. Want to complain about the Bills 2nd round pick? Yell at Rich. All has been pretty much quiet in Bills nation. The schedule was released and with so many unknowns on this Bills team, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that they’re 3-6 at the bye week. Bills have a lot questions going into this off-season on both sides of the ball, and let’s be honest, they don’t really have the best coaching staff.
The offensive coordinator is fine well and good, but the defense is in hands of the Ryan brothers and that just doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzy feelings. I HOPE I AM WRONG THOUGH. Anyways, on to the mock. Rich, you ready? Let’s go.
1. L.A. Rams – Jared Goff QB Cal – I love this trade for the Rams. I know it’s a lot, but you’re in Los Angeles now. You need to make a splash. You can’t go into the season with Case Keenum as your starter. If you love a QB, and it’s a QB driven league, you have to go get them. This is the trade the Bills should’ve made for RG3. The Rams are going either hit a homerun or go down swinging. I’d rather go down swinging, but that’s just me. Goff is the safe pick. California kid who is more pro ready then Wentz.
2. Philadelphia Eagles – Carson Wentz – QB North Dakota St – Eagles wanted him bad enough to make this trade and now they have him. With Wentz, Pederson sees a future franchise QB. Having Sam Bradford in the fold allows them to also treat Wentz as a top QB (read: any QB worth developing) should be – put on ice until he’s ready to ensure his best chance at success.
3. San Diego Chargers – Larmey Tunsil – OT Ole Miss – The Chargers should select the best OL prospect to make sure Rivers is well protected for the next few years.
4. Dallas Cowboys – Joey Bosa – DE Ohio State – Cowboys need to re-stock their pass rush and do so with a complete defensive end in Bosa.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars – Deforest Buckner – DE Oregon – The Jaguars are going to be fun to watch this season and Buckner will add to their youth movement.
6. Baltimore Ravens – Jalen Ramsey – CB/S FSU – Ozzie the GOAT does it again. Instead of grabbing a tackle because “safe” he grabs Ramsey, who can either step in at S or CB for the Ravens and start day one.
7. San Francisco 49ers – Myles Jack – LB UCLA – If his medical records come back clean, he could and should go top 5.
8. Cleveland Browns – Shaq Lawson – DE Clemson – Pairing Kruger and Lawson should give Hue Jackson’s defense a much needed facelift from a rush perspetive.
9. Tampa Bay Bucs – Vernon Hargreaves III – CB Florida – Tampa snags a DB who can help in division with Kelvin Benjamin, Brandin Cooks, and Julio Jones
10. New York Giants – Ezekiel Elliott – RB Ohio State – Giving Eli a back of Elliott’s calibre to throw passes out of the backfield as well as he runs will give Manning a few years respite in his quest to beat Peyton in rings.
11. Chicago Bears – Leonard Floyd – DE Georgia – Floyd is the pass rusher the Bears need that they have been lacking for some time.
12. New Orleans Saints – Sheldon Rankins – DL Louisville – The versatile Rankins can play across the defensive line, allowing the Saints a fun chess piece against the rest of the NFC South.
13. Miami Dolphins – Darron Lee – LB Ohio State – If..IF.. Kiko Alonso can stay healthy (MAJOR IF), Alonso and Lee would be a great duo. Miami is building something nice.
14. Oakland Raiders – Mackensie Alexander – CB Clemson – The Raiders would have bookend corners, making their push for the 2016-17 playoffs that much closer to reality.
15. Tennessee Titans – Jack Conklin – OT Michigan State – Add all of those picks by dropping 14 spots and still get a quality LT prospect? Titans will take that. All of those picks are nice, and if they draft right they could be something special, but then you remember who their head coach is.
16. Detroit Lions – Ronnie Stanley – OT Notre Dame – The Lions secure a falling Stanley who can fit at either RT or LT depending on how the off-season shook out.
17. Atlanta Falcons – Kevin Dodd – DE Clemson – Falcons need help on the defense and Dodd is a great prospect who had stellar last season with Clemson.
18. Indianapolis Colts – A’Shawn Robinson – DL Alabama – With Robinson, the Colts pick up a younger player that can play NT and DE – and in a perfect world allow the OLBs to play a bit freer in the scheme.
19. Buffalo Bills – Laquon Treadwell – WR Ole Miss – I’m about, oh 90% sure, that the Bills first two picks will be defense, because Rex needs “his guys” to run his defense. However, have y’all seen the WR depth chart for this team after Watkins? Jarrett Boykin, Marcus Easley, Goodwin, Leonard Hankerson, Dez Lewis, Greg Little, Walter Powell, blocking WR extraordinaire Robert Woods, and the greatness that is Greg Salas. In other words the Bills have NOTHING after Watkins. I’m not sure what to think of a team that had to trade up 2 drafts ago to get Watkins, and now two years later are in position AGAIN to draft another one with their first pick. Again, I think it will be defense, I know for sure it won’t be a QB, but if Treadwell is sitting there at 19 it should make Whaley and company think twice about drafting anyone else.
20. New York Jets – Paxton Lynch – QB Memphis – The Jets can still re-sign Fitz, but they secure their QB of the future in the big man.
21. Washington Redskins – CB Eli Apple – DB Ohio State – The number of Ohio State players drafted in the first round will break all the records.
22. Houston Texans – Corey Coleman – WR Baylor – Nuk on one side; Coleman on the other. RIP AFC South Secondaries.
23. Minnesota Vikings – Josh Doctson – WR TCU – Teddy Bridgewater gets another weapon. Vikings will a lot people’s team to watch in 2016.
24. Cincinnati Bengals – Will Fuller – WR Notre Dame – The wide receiver run continues as the Bengals take the speedster to pair with AJ Green.
25. Pittsburgh Steelers – William Jackson III – CB Houston – This appears to be the lock of the draft. Everything I’ve read and seen has Pittsburgh locked in on Jackson.
26. Seattle Seahawks – Germain Ifedi – The ‘Hawks grab an athletic OT that can step in from day one and be a Tom Cable approved cog in the offense.
27. Green Bay Packers – Jarran Reed – DT Alabama – With BJ Raji gone, Reed seems like the natural fit.
28. Kansas City Chiefs – Michael Thomas – WR Ohio State – Finding a partner for Jeremy Maclin makes the Chiefs reach a bit here, but the 6’3″ receiver would be a needed compliment to the former Eagle.
29. Arizona Cardinals – Noah Spence – Edge/DE Eastern Kentucky – THIS IS THE GUY WHO I THINK THE BILLS WILL END UP TAKING BUT IN THIS MOCK HE GOES TO ARIZONA AND MAKES THEM EVEN BETTER ON DEFENSE
30. Carolina Panthers – Emmanuel Ogbah – DE Oklahoma State – Needing a partner for Kony Ealy, Ogbah this late into round 1 seems like a solid fit.
31. Denver Broncos – Chris Jones – DT Mississippi State – Chris Jones is a draft day riser. Pending on how all the trades fall, this guy could find himself in the top 20.
49. Buffalo Bills – Kamalei Correa – DE/OLB Boise St – The Bills get a pass rusher that can play with his hand in the dirt or in a 2 point stance to compliment Jerry Hughes and ensure that the Bills have a fighting chance of no longer having a bottom 10 rushing outfit.
