#BWinsDraft Q&A about Kevon Seymour with @PenguinOfTroy of @ReignOfTroy

With the final pick made, it’s time for our final draftee interview – and Alicia de Artola, Editor of Reign of Troy was more than happy to provide some insight into Kevon Seymour of USC. Thanks to Alicia for the time and check out their fine work @ReignOfTroy on twitter!

How would you describe Kevon’s time at school?

Seymour was thrown into action probably a bit too early in his career and it resulted in a shaky start, but he really grew into his role in 2013. He was immense against Fresno State in the Las Vegas Bowl and shut down a quality receiver in Davante Adams.

He came along really well in 2014, holding his own across from Adoree’ Jackson. Unfortunately the wheels fell off in 2015. He had injuries and there appeared to be some behind the scenes issues which saw him lose a lot of playing time even when healthy.

What are his strengths/weaknesses?

Athletically Seymour is gifted. He’s fast, he can keep pace with receivers and he’s got decent instincts.

The trouble is that he’s not particularly polished and as a result he’s inconsistent. He’s also prone to occasional mental mistakes. USC fans still fault him for his role in the Trojans’ collapse against Arizona State in 2014. Late in the game while protecting a lead he tried to jump a route, missed and the receiver scored a long touchdown which began their comeback.

A lot of scouts have also dinged him for a lack of physicality.

Is there anything fans outside of your team wouldn’t know about him?

Fans can read scouting reports and watch tape, but the biggest thing that wouldn’t translate is how respected Seymour is as a person. You need only look on Twitter to see how much the LA media appreciated his interactions with them. He’s a great character guy.

How do you think he’ll fit with the Bills – Particularly his coverage or perhaps playing special teams or safety?

Seymour will probably need time to develop, so the Bills seem like a great landing spot for him with their depth at the position. I wouldn’t expect him to serve as a safety (those physicality questions would be even more highlighted). He played special teams throughout his Trojan career so I’d expect him to put in great effort in that arena with the Bills.

Any game(s) we should point fans to as “the game” that he stood out?

The 2013 Las Vegas Bowl was definitely his shining moment. He was named the Defensive Outperformer of the Game with seven tackles and a key tackle for loss and deflection.

Any stats jump out during his time at your school?

In 2014, Seymour led USC with 13 deflections. That’s a sign of his ability to disrupt and be in the right place at the right time. At the same time, just three career interceptions says something about him as well.

I saw Kevon had a few injuries during his time at USC. Any concerns?

He did miss his fair share of games at USC but none of his injuries would raise too much of a red flag in my mind. Knee injuries are always a concern but he appeared fine in that area by the time the Combine came around.

Any other thoughts on Kevon?

I think Kevon is an underrated prospect and could develop into quite the asset for the Bills. I understand the reasons for his dropping, but there’s a lot to like in his play overall. I look forward to seeing his career unfold, especially around the likes of Nickell Robey and Tim McDonald.
