“O Captain! My Captain!” @stephietweets Movie Review of Captain America: Civil War

It’s safe to say 2016 is the year to be pitting superheroes against superheroes. First we had the release of Batman vs. Superman. And then the highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War dropped.

The marketing on Twitter of the movie was very much centered on where your loyalties lie:  Are you Team Iron Man or Team Cap?

By the way, kudos to the Marvel marketing team by running a solid marketing campaign on Twitter with the Civil War cast. I had participated in it when it first launched and was floored when Sebastian Stan aka BUCKY BARNES gave a shoutout to my twitter handle via video in real time:

But that’s enough about me and my fangirlness…

To be frank, I was Team Cap from the very beginning and after watching the movie only reaffirmed this loyalty.

I have ranked this movie better than any of The Avengers movies. It was that good.

Stephie’s Scattered Thoughts:

1). Captain America has the strongest Marvel superhero movie game in the Captain America trilogy over Thor and Iron Man movies.

2). Can’t wait for the Black Panther movie. Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal is one BAMF.  Sign me up. Crazy we have to wait for 2018 for its release.

3). Despite being a skeptic of the casting initially, I thought Tom Holland’s portrayal of a youthful Spider-man to be very endearing. What a goober. It has intrigued me enough to buy a ticket to go see Homecoming. Also when Peter made that Star Wars reference, I was sold.

4). Chris Evans & Sebastian Stan’s chemistry in the every bromantical sense shined.  It was OFF THE CHARTS.  I am a huge advocate of the bromance in movies. Just to give you an idea, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid happens to be one of my favorite movies of all time. Bucky Barnes must be protected at all costs.

5). Really enjoyed Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch portrayal in this one. Loved her ever since I saw her in that indie flick “Martha Marcy May Marlene” that came out back in 2011. I have a mega girl crush on her as of late and her geeky obsession over Star Wars is just perfection. If you haven’t seen her interviews on this subject matter, I highly suggest you Youtube that.

6). People need to relax about this whole “Captain America is a now a Hydra agent”  controversy that’s blowing up social media. Although Chris Evans tweet about it was hilarious and Twitter’s reaction to it through internet memes was priceless:

Methinks Nick Spencer is a troll. Kudos again to Marvel for making this a controversial trending topic.  Let’s take the “wait and see” approach on this.  Stay tuned.

7). Am I the only one that finds it weird that Sharon Carter is Peggy’s relative and Cap is moving in on her as a budding love interest? I’m not digging this Sharon Carter and Steve Rogers thing. Not my jam.

8). I had never seen Ant-Man before watching this movie. That being said, I absolutely adore Paul Rudd as a human being. Loved his bit in this movie.

9). It seriously bothered me throughout the entire movie of wondering where I have seen the guy who plays Zemo before and then it dawned on me once the credits hit. It’s Daniel Brühl and he was in Inglourious Basterds. Note to self: be sure to hit up IMDB before watching any movie in a theater so this problem doesn’t happen again.

10). Why couldn’t Tony just take a quick detour to Hell’s Kitchen and recruit Matt Murdock aka Daredevil to help a dude out? I mean the guy already was in Queens to grab Peter Parker. I’m probably just uber biased as I binge watched the second season of Daredevil on Netflix when it came out this year and have watched it twice already.

Side note:  I’m super pumped for The Defenders.

11). If Deadpool ever made an appearance in the Black Widow standalone or Infinity War that would literally be the most epic and most awkward encounter for so many reasons.

Final Words to describe Civil War: Dope. Boss. Intense. Worth the price of admission.

Stephie’s Final Rating: 5 out of 5 blazing and glorious Captain America stars.
