The Starter: Tyrod Taylor.
The Backup(s): EJ Manuel, Cardale Jones.
The Skinny: What a difference a year makes. To go from a three headed beast (in which Matt Cassel was touted by some as the vet savior) to Tyrod Taylor as the established starter is quite the jump. But the former Raven proved over the course of the season he earned the right to be “the guy” in Buffalo. But for how long? Between his contract and the fair critique of his acumen over the middle, there is still a bit of a question hanging over Tyrod’s head as to how much the Bills are #AllIn with him.
Who’s Safe: I’d say all three, barring some insane pill-fueled binge at a Tim Horton’s or something by Manuel. Because of the pecking order being so clear for this year, this position will be interesting at the end of the season, when Tyrod and EJ are both free agents. Will Roman and Rex see Cardale as the ready-in-waiting replacement? Will Tyrod get the band-aid contract / franchise tag?
Moreso than any other position on the roster this question is tied exclusively to the current staff on the field and in the front office. If Greg Roman departs or Rex / Doug Whaley are fired, who decides to keep Tyrod? Ownership? The new GM/HC? Will he want to stay? A lot of moving pieces I’m excited to see come to a head one way or the other this year.
