Player of the Game
Jairo Asencio was tonight’s Player of the Game with his solid relief outing and the lack of Indians offense. Asencio pitched 2.1 perfect innings, striking out 2 batters. His score of 3.09 gives him his second Player of the Game award of the season.
Feathers Up
Casey Kotchman is finally starting to swing the bat and get on base. He started this series with one of the worst batting averages in the league. Though he is still hovering around the .200 mark, Kotchman went 5-11, has knocked in 3, and scored 2 runs in the series.
The Indians defense tonight was solid. They had one error late by Jason Donald, but throughout the game, several fielders had nice plays. Casey Kotchman continued his great defensive play at first base, and Shin-Soo Choo and Johnny Damon each had great plays in the outfield.
Feathers Down
Even though he has no problem taking out pitchers who are throwing shut outs in the 6th inning, Manny Acta decided that Jeanmar Gomez should work through his struggles as he left him in through the 7th. Gomez allowed 6 runs in the 4th inning as the White Sox batted around. He also allowed a two run home run in the first inning for a total of 8 runs allowed on the night.
The Indians bats were quiet for the second straight night. Tonight, Tribe batters managed to get 8 hits and only scored one run. The Indians split the series with the White Sox and still manage to hold on to the first place position over second place Detroit.
