Player of the Game
Justin Masterson pitched a gem, earning him today’s Player of the Game. Masterson pitched 7 strong innings and he showed us why he is the ace of this ball club. He gave up just 5 hits: 3 singles, a double, and the only mistake he made today, a home run to Carlos Beltran. His control was phenomenal; he did not walk a single batter and he struck out six. The only thing missing from this masterpiece of a pitching performance was a win. Unfortunately, the offense was unable to support him with any runs. His score tonight was 4.19, giving him his 2nd place 5th Player of the Game for the season.

Michael Brantley and Asdrubal Cabrera were the only Indians batters that could get hits off Kyle Lohse. Brantley got 2 of the 3 hits that the St. Louis starter gave up. He had 2 singles tonight, extending his hit streak to 17 games. Asdrubal Cabrera was the last hitter that Lohse faced. Lohse was removed from the game after Cabrera hit a long single in the 8th inning.
Feathers Down
Interleague Play probably cut Justin Masterson’s night short. He was still under 100 pitches after 7 innings pitched, but his spot in the batting order came up in the bottom of the inning. With the Indians down by just 1 run, Manny Acta pinch hit for him in attmpt to improve their offense.
No run support for Justin Masterson.
With the Indians down just 1-0 in the 8th inning, Jeremy Accardo came into the game to relieve Justin Masterson. Accardo gave up a double to the first batter of the inning, Shane Robinson, who was then sacrificed to 3rd. A sacrifice fly then scored Robinson, giving the Indians a 2 run disadvantage with just one more inning to bat.
This is the first time the Indians have been shut out this year.
