9/9 Game Recap: Indians 7 – Twins 8

Player of the Game

It was the Carlos Santana show today as he was a huge contribution to the offense. Santana hit a home run in his first at bat, singled in his second, and doubled in his third. Santana ended the day with a score of 6.31, going 3-5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Feathers Up

The Indians offense took a great approach in the first 3 innings facing Minnesota starter, Esmerling Vasquez: Don’t swing. In his short outing, Vasquez walked 5 batters. The offense took advantage of this as they even hit 2 sacrifice flies to score a couple runs.

Russ Canzler continues to succeed at the Major League level. He has now hit in all 7 games he has played in. His hit today was a big one, an RBI single in the 5th inning that scored the go-ahead run for the Indians.

The Indians tied the game in the 8th when Jason Donald hit a triple that scored Brent Lillibridge, who was hit by a pitch.

Feathers Down

Good thing there are expanded rosters, because the Indians sure have been going to their bullpen a lot lately. Corey Kluber started the game strong, but fell apart in the 3rd inning after the Indians scored their 4th run. He gave up 3 runs in the 3rd after giving up a single, a triple, and a home run. Minnesota added 2 more in the 4th off Kluber with a couple bloop singles and a couple stolen bases. Manny Acta decided to match up early and pulled Kluber after 3.2 innings for lefty Chris Seddon.

After coming back to take the lead in the 5th, the Indians lost the lead in the 8th with a pitching combination of Esmil Rogers and Tony Sipp. Rogers exited the game with one out and the bases loaded. Tony Sipp got out number 2 without giving up a run, but then gave up a 2 run single.

And…. after a back and forth battle all game, Justin Morneau hit a walk off home run off Vinnie Pestano in the 9th inning.

Play of the Game

Just one pitch to Justin Morneau ended the game.
