  • The draft was pitcher heavy overall, but especially for the Tribe who took 24 pitchers overall, breaking down into 17 RHP and 7 LHP.
  • The final 12 picks were position players, but only the the first overall pick out of the eight picks was not a pitcher.
  • The Indians first round pick was last year's high school player of the year and the first high school player to be taken first by the Indians since Francisco Lindor two years ago. Lindor was the first since 2001 when the Indians took Dan Denham in the first round. For a long time the Indians were focused on taking college players as there is less risk, but very few of those players have made an impact on the Major League Level. While it takes a few years longer for a high school player to mature, most potentially great high schoolers are drafted before they hit college.
  • There's nothing wrong with a little nepotism. The Indians selected Paul Cogan, the son of an Indians scout. Cogan was actually in the draft room when his name was called. Last season the Indians drafted Nick Hamilton, the son of radio announcer Tom Hamilton.
  • There aren't a whole lot of big names in this years' draft beyond Frazier and Kime, but there is a very odd name in Sicnarf Loopstok. He is a sophomore catcher out of Western Oklahoma St. JC that was originially born in Aruba.
