6/25 Recap: Indians 3 – Orioles 6

Player of the Game

Jason Kipnis stayed hot tonight as he was safe each time at the plate including two walks, a home run and a single, knocking in two of the Indians three runs. His POG score of 5.01 pushes him to a team high of 111.3 (or 1.66 per game), the best on the team. Kipnis was predicted to be the Indians top player in our preseason Player Power Rankings and after a slow start, has finally regained that spot. Not only does he lead in total points this year, but with his 8th award of the year, he now leads in times won Player of the Game in 2013 as well.

Feathers Up

The top of the Indians lineup performed again tonight with Jason Kipnis and Michael Bourn leading the way in the scoring. With Asdrubal Cabrera returning tomorrow (possibly) this can only get better as pressure should be taken off Nick Swisher (who could be moved in the lineup) and Mike Aviles.

Feathers Down

Today was just another day that we didn't see an Indian pitch a perfect game. Justin Masterson made it as close as we have seen this year, however as he was perfect through four innings. Just as the Orioles got their first hit, they scored their first run as well, ruining the shut out in the fifth inning as well.

Masterson saw things fall apart in a hurry in the seventh inning when top running MVP candidate, Chris Davis, finally woke up for the Orioles. After hitting Adam Jones with the first pitch of the inning, Davis took the second deep to right for a two run home run that tied the game. After a four pitch walk, a check swing single put runners on first and second again. Former Twin, Alexi Casilla then pushed Masterson from the start that started so well with a three run home run to give the the Orioles a 6-3 lead.
