6/27 Recap: Indians 3 – Orioles 7

Roster Update: As expected, Chris Perez returned to the Indians bullpen tonight and T.J. House was sent back to AAA. In other roster news, John McDonald, who was designated for assignment yesterday, has been traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for the infamous player to be named later or cash.

Player of the Game

Lonnie Chisenhall had his best all around game of the season today, showing the Indians what they were missing while he was in AAA. The Chiz Kid started it off with a solo home run that reached Eutaw street in the second inning. He came around again, two innings later, and hit an RBI double to knock in the Indians second run. Throughout the game he played a solid third base for a Tribe team that has struggled defensively of late as well.

Feathers Up

The Indians have done a fairly good job keeping Chris Davis from beating them this series, which is very impressive considering his year to this point. He hit safely just three times in 14 at bats. He knocked in four runs during the four games, but two of those came off one hit in game two, a 6-3 Indians loss.

Chris Perez wasn't needed during his first game back, but without him, the bullpen performed pretty well anyway. Matt Albers, Bryan Shaw and Nick Hagadone combined to throw the final 3.1 innings without allowing a single base runner.

Feathers Down

For the second start in a row, Corey Kluber had less than perfect stuff, but he didn't fare quite as well as in his last start. This time, things fell apart in the fifth inning after he was living on the edge all game prior to that. The Orioles had six hits in the inning to score five runs, giving the Orioles the lead.

An interesting call hurt the Indians in during that fifth inning, when Davis grounded into what could have been an inning ending double play that would have kept the game tied. Jason Kipnis fielded the high bouncer and threw the ball to Mike Aviles at second to get Adam Jones before Aviles turned and threw to first to complete the play. Davis beat the throw to first and was safe on the fielder's choice with an RBI. Kipnis then argued that Jones had interfered with Aviles, but was denied in his appeal. The wrong team was arguing however, as Aviles had come off the base before catching the throw and Jones was called safe at second, but went into the dug out and was called out for abdicating the base. It wasn't clear what happened until an inning later and the umpire never told Jones that he was safe.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 3 – Baltimore Orioles 7
