Player of the Game
With no surprise, Corey Kluber wins his team-leading (tied with Brantley) 17th Player of the Game of the season. Though he was not overly dominate this afternoon, giving up 7 hits and 2 earned runs, the Twin bats were no match for Kluber. He pitched 8 innings and walked only one. Kluber recorded 14 strike outs for the second start in a row.
Feathers Up
Four consecutive hits in the top of the 3rd gave the Indians a one-run lead after Corey Kluber gave up the first run of the game in the previous inning. Mike Aviles, Michael Bourn, Jose Ramirez, and Michael Brantley each contributed to the string of hits.
Tribe hitters did not have to try hard to take advantage of a sloppy 5th inning for Minnesota. After singles by Bourn and Ramirez, Michael Brantley reach on a play in which 2 errors were committed. A sloppy throw to 2nd and a wild throw to 1st recorded zero outs and allowed the Tribe to score a run. A balk later in the inning would allow another Cleveland run to score.
KKKKKKKKKKKKKKluber Watch: Corey Kluber continues to post double-digit strike out numbers. With 14 strike outs today, Kluber moved himself into the Top-10 list for K’s in a single season. With 258, Kluber sits in 10th place behind Bob Feller’s 1941 season of 260. With one more start in the season, Kluber has the opportunity to move into 6th. He is the first Tribe pitcher since 1970 to enter the top 10 ranks. Additionally, with his 14 strike outs today, Kluber is the best in the American League.
Milestone Alert: When Oswaldo Arcia struck out in the 2nd inning, the 2014 Indians pitching staff officially surpassed the 2013 club and now holds the team record for most strike outs in a single season. Tribe pitchers struck out 15 batters today, for a season total of 1,391.
Wild Card Round-Up: The only complete game at the conclusion of the Indians game was a Yankee win over Toronto. Going into the last week of the season, the two Wild Card spots are still up for grabs.
Feathers Down
Terry Francona was only able to add one more pitching change to his record setting year. Yet, Francona still managed to pitch Nick Hagadone in his 4th consecutive game.

On Deck: On Monday, the Indians will finish the suspended August 31st game on the road (in Cleveland) against KC at 6:00, resuming in the bottom of the 10th inning with a 2-run lead. Following, Danny Duffy and Danny Salazar face off at 7:05 at Progressive Field.
