Player of the Game

Francisco Lindor continues to impress everyone with his all around play. Today he went 2 for 4 with 2 runs batted in. Notable mentions: Abraham Almonte (2 for 3, 2 runs scored, 1 stolen base) and Chris Johnson (3 for 4, 2 runs batted in).

Feathers Up

Cody Anderson wasn’t as sharp as he had been in his previous two starts but he found a way to get out of jams in nearly every inning pitched. On the day he pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 3. Another solid outing by Anderson.

In the 5th Yan Gomes got the Indians started with a double down the first base line that move Lonnie Chisenhall to 3rd. Almonte followed it up with a walk to load the bases and Johnson drove a single into right to tie the game up. After back-to-back infield pop ups, Francisco Lindor hit a groundball up the middle to score two runners and put the Indians up 3-1.

Zach McAllister came on in relief of Cody Anderson with 2 outs and nobody on in the 5th and promptly walked the bases loaded before being pulled. Jeff Manship was called on to put out the raging dumpster fire McAllister started and struck out Anthony Gose to leave them loaded. Jeff Manship has quietly been one of the best relievers on the team this season.

The Indians offense got a late start but for the 14th straight home game they racked up 10 or more hits. Impressive feat for a team that was routinely scrounging just to score runs a few months ago. This is the longest such streak since 1925.

Feathers Down

Zach McAllister’s aforementioned meltdown was one, if not the only thing that went wrong today.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 7 Detroit Tigers 2

On Deck: Game 2 of today’s double dip will feature Randy Wolf for the Tigers squaring off against the always entertaining/frustrating Trevor Bauer.
