Feathers Up

Prior to tonight’s game, Corey Kluber was honored as the Cleveland Indians nominee for the 2016 Bob Feller Act of Valor Award…he was accompanied by his wife, Amanda, who has joined Corey to support veterans & youth throughout the Northeast Ohio community.

With the victory, the Indians now hold a 10-0 advantage over Detroit in the 2016 season series (6-0 in Detroit, 4-0 at Progressive Field – all 3-game sets). The Indians last finished a season above the .500 mark against the Tigers in 2012 (10-8). They have won 10 straight and 15 of the club’s last 17 meetings with Detroit dating back to June 24 of last season.

The Tribe’s current 9-game winning streak marks club’s longest against the Tigers in the same season since 1996 when the Tribe went a perfect 12-0 vs. Detroit (became 13 straight in ‘97).

The Indians started the scoring in the second when Mike Napoli hit his 14th double to center. Carlos Santana singled in Napoli, making the score 1-0.

Tigers starter Daniel Norris left the game early with an injury in the third inning and the Indians followed suite by adding another run. After a Rajai Davis walk, Jason Kipnis doubled on a line drive to right-field, advancing Davis to third. Fransisco Lindor hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Davis from third.

Napoli broke the tie in the seventh with a two-run home-run to the bleachers in left, making the score 5-3. Of Napoli’s 17 home runs this season, 12 have come at home, and 13 have come against right-handers.

Feathers Down

Salazar made his first mistake in the fifth inning when Steven Moya slammed a 2-2 change-up to right-center field for a home-run. He got burned on another change-up in the sixth with he left one up in the strike zone to Nick Castellanos who, with a runner on base, tied the game at three with a home-run to the bleachers in left field.

Salazar left after 99 pitches. He had gone over 100 pitches in six straight starts before his last one and 12 of his last 14.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 5 – Detroit Tigers 3

On Deck:

Carlos Carrasco will be making his 11th start of the season in the middle installment of this three-game set against the Tigers. He will be pitching on regular four days’ rest after making his last start on June 30 at Toronto as he pitched into the 8th inning and recorded 14 strikeouts – one shy of a career high to earn his fourth victory of the year . He has made 12 career starts against Detroit, going 4-6 with a 5.74 ERA (40ER/62.2IP) all-time against the Tigers…earned the win on June 25 at Detroit, his most recent start against the Tigers, as he went the distance (9.0IP, 4H, 0R-ER, 1BB, 7SO, 117 pitches), recording his seventh career complete game and third career CG SHO.
