Jason Heyward.
He’s a Cardinal as of Monday morning. Woot.
But you don’t know Jason Heyward. I mean, you know a little bit, but not a ton. And you need to cut through the crap and learn what you really want to know. So we’re here to help.
Give me the basics.
He’s 25. Throws and bats left handed. Plays right field. he’s 6’5″ and 245lbs.
He’s won 2 Gold Glove awards and is considered if not the best, amongst the 3 best defensive right fielders in baseball.
He was drafted by the Braves in 2007 out of McDonough HS in Atlanta, meaning he was a hometown product for the Braves and his move to St. Louis will be a new experience.
Any demoralizing Cubs highlights?
How about his first ever MLB at bat? Will that work?
Dude social?

What about an ESPN feature? Preferably one with with soft focus…
Doesn’t’ this dude wear like half a face-mask on his batting helmet?
He did yes. He doesn’t anymore.
What about that contract, bruh?
So yeah. That’s the rub on this whole deal. The contract.
Jason is signed through next year @ 7.8M. He’ll then be a free-agent. If he doesn’t re-sign with the Cardinals, then the Birds just gave away a reliable, young, cost-controlled starting pitcher for 1 year of Heyward.
Pending on what the Cardinals do next year – may or may not be worth it.
What does he want in a new deal?
Well, going on a rate of 4-5M per WAR point per season, he’ll probably be seeking somewhere in the range of 18-24M per year for 7+ years. That’s a total guess for a starting point… and if Giancarlo Stanton really gets 300+M in his new contract (which seems to be agreed upon) with the Marlins… that guess might be really low.
Jason Heyward, last 3 years: 14.8 fWAR. Giancarlo Stanton, last 3 years: 14.0 fWAR. So yeah, the #Cardinals just got a pretty good player.

We have to assume that Mo is working on a new contract with Heyward sooner than later. But make no mistake, the fact that the Braves pulled the trigger on this deal indicates that he was going to be too rich for their blood in 2016 and beyond.
Is he a good dude?
Seems like it. When’s the last time you bought all your co-workers a PS4?
