You guys, the Cardinals pitching has been ridiculous this season.
- #1 in ER (29, next closest is 44)
- #1 in ERA (2.06, next closest is 2.81)
- #1 in RUNS (32, next closest is 47)
- #1 in BAA (.209, next closes is .215)
Mike Wacha has made 3 starts. His opponents?
- Johnny Cueto (’14 All-Star, ’14 NL Cy Young runner up)
- Johnny Cueto (’14 12th place NL MVP)
- Max Scherzer (’14 All-Star, ’13 AL CY winner, ’14 CY 5th place)
All he did was go 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA and 3 earned runs. Adding in 12 strike outs for good measure. And we were kind of worried about how he’d bounce back from injury/getting walked off in the NLCS?
The Cardinals sit atop the NL Central table with a 10-4 mark and head into Milwaukee to face the reeling Brewers (3-13). They’ve yet to lose a series. And have their #2 hitter/big ’15 offensive addition batting .213 with 3 RBIs and 12 SOs.
If they can start hitting consistently… woah.
They just went into Washington and took 2 of 3 from the Nationals. Had they not had a LOBster feast on Tuesday night, it would have been a sweep. 2 runs over 10 innings is good enough to win 90% of the time.
Here’s a pre-season prediction chart from ESPN where they had 15 MLB experts make their World Series championship picks.
6 of them picked the Nationals to win it all. And the Cardinals dismissed them with extreme prejudice.
Hell, even the loss was productive – reminding their closer Drew Storen that he is forever allowed to do not what he wants, but what the Cardinals will allow.
Win series = win championships.
Pitching wins championships.
Pick your axiom. The Cardinals are flying under the radar (HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE METS? ZOMG!!!!), but are putting together a very impressive resume through the first month of the season.
Before you know it, you just might be watching the best Redbird team we’ve seen this decade.
