The baseball season is long.
There was a time – during this season – when Cardinal fans were wondering out loud if Matt Adams was the solution at 1B; if he was blowing his shot at cementing his place as an every day, every at bat player.
Interesting what 4 months of Mark Reynolds and Brandon Moss can do for one’s reputation.
Tonight in Milwaukee Matt Adams will get his first start since May 26th. Originally many expected his season was done after tearing a quad muscle during that game against the Diamondbacks, but he’s progressed quicker than expected. The Adams doubters have used the summer to reflect and are ready to welcome Big Mayo back – enthusiastically, even.
#STLCards are expecting to get clearance for Matt Adams to rejoin the starting lineup in Milwaukee, possibly as early as Tuesday.

Cardinals current team ranks:
- Home Runs – 27th
- Runs – 24th
- Slugging – 24th
- RBIs – 24th
You get the idea. Even with the pitching staff falling to earth these past two weeks, the Cardinals problems begin and end with offense. Matt Adams might not give the Cardinals a Tulowitzki type jolt now that he’s back… but it’d also be difficult to be any worse than the production the Cardinals have gotten at 1B.
Only 9 NL 1B have enough qualified ABs in 2015 to rank in official statistics. But if you expand the data set to all NL 1B, Reynolds is ranked 24th in the NL.
In the NL.
Granted, some of the people in front of him have very tiny plate appearance totals. You get the point, though. You’ve watched this team.
With 19 games remaining and the bottom-feeding Brewers on tap, the Cardinals have to take 2/3 games before a raucous series with the Cubs starts on Friday. That half game in the standings against the Pirates & Cubs will also take a swing after they play a double header today.
The division lead could be down to 1 (Pirates sweep DH, Cardinals lose) or up to 4 (Cubs sweep DH, Cardinals win). Today is huge. #STLCards

Welcome back, big man. The Cardinals are in need of a serious jolt of energy and you’re wielding just the type of stick they need.
