The next time St. Louis Cardinals fans will be able to watch their team play at Busch Stadium will be in the playoffs, as the Cardinals wrapped up their final regular season home series of the season over the weekend against the Milwaukee Brewers. They just hope it will be in the Divisional Series, rather than the do-or-die NL Wild Card Game, which St. Louis could still end up in.
After sweeping a three-game set against the Cincinnati Reds at home, the Cardinals split their four-game series with the Brewers to conclude their 2015 home slate. St. Louis lost their regular season home finale, 8-4, on Sunday, September 28.
It would be a shame if the Cardinals were somehow unable to wrap up the NL Central division, which they’ve led literally every day since the middle of April. They’ve also had the best record in all of Major League Baseball for much of the campaign, and were even the first team to officially join the postseason last weekend. St. Louis can put a bow on the division with a strong performance in their upcoming three-game series with the second-place Pittsburgh Pirates, who currently trail the Redbirds by three games with six remaining.
With a division title looming, celebrating with the team at PNC Park is possible through Hipmunk.com, where flights to Pittsburgh can take fans to the opposing ballpark. Pittsburgh hotels starting from $88 can have fans in Pittsburgh for multiple games to assure the division title is settled by the series finale, which will be played on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Speaking of that aforementioned series finale, it’s the most expensive Cardinals tickets on the secondary market for the remainder of the regular season, according to TiqIQ.com. With an average ticket price of $132.66 and a get-in price of $22, it’s by far and away the clubhouse leader. Meanwhile, the series opener has an average ticket price of $70.35 and the middle game has an average price of $69.75. While playing in Atlanta for the final three games of the regular season, the most expensive game in that series is on the second-to-last day of the campaign, having an average price of $64.01.
St. Louis has endured two key injuries at the absolute worst time in the year as they prepare for the postseason. All-Star catcher Yadier Molina sustained a thumb injury that he insists he’ll return from before the season ends, while hard-throwing starting pitcher Carlos Martinez has been shut down for the rest of the year with a shoulder strain, meaning he’ll miss the postseason after playing a vital role in the team’s success in 2015. On the opposite side of the coin, Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright has been inching closer to returning after an Achilles injury has held him out of games since April.
