Busch Stadium is getting new video boards.

Hard to believe, but HDTV hasn’t been the standard for broadcasting all that long. For some perspective: as best I can tell, FOX didn’t start airing the NFL in HD until 2006.
Busch III was opened in 2006. It was probably time for an upgrade.
In the past few years, video boards have become an intrinsic part of the in-stadium experience. From Dallas to Seattle to Jacksonville, it’s hard to have a world-class stadium experience without an outstanding video board.
And since this is the winter of discontent between the Cardinals and Cubs, a stadium upgrade couldn’t be made without mention of the North Siders:
“We’ll be right up there with the best of them now,” said Joe Abernathy, vice president of stadium operations for the Cardinals. “It’s amazing how technology has evolved in 10 short years. Technology has progressed considerably since we put this in back in April 2006.
“But we did get upset actually when the Cubs had a better videoboard than us. Especially with how it ended [in the National League Division Series] and all they’re doing now, we don’t want to be sitting behind the Cubs in anything.”
Candidly, the LF video board in Wrigley Field is very impressive. So if the Cardinals are planning on one-upping the Cubs in this department, they better bring the heat. (I’m not as bullish on the RF board and would rather see the rooftops… but that’s just, like, my opinion, man).
Regardless of what tech is actually installed, I think the 3M+ fans that attend a game in 2016 are going to be happy with the update.
