The Cardinals brought back stasis to the universe by sweeping the Atlanta Braves in a three game set and getting back to .500 on the season.
We learned many things over the first full weekend of regular season games, but none more concretely than these two teams would probably take a hour to cook minute rice.
Here are the game lengths:
- Friday: 3:00
- Saturday: 3:30
- Sunday: 3:55
I mean, I think it’s still Sunday. It’s Sunday, right?
Other things observed?
The Braves aren’t good. In fact, they could be the worst team in Major League Baseball this season. Wins will not come easy for them.
And while you like the Cardinals taking care of business in Atlanta, I wouldn’t go crazy. They thumped a bad team.

Sunday’s game was a bit more harried than the final score turned out to be.
With a 1 run lead in the bottom of the 8th, the Braves had the bases loaded. Skip turned to his closer to get out of the jam and he delivered. Skip also let him bat and go back out in the 9th after the Cards got 5 insurance runs and went up 6… but that’s another topic for another day.

Improbably, after 6 games, we have a legit struggle for the starting CF job.
Hazelbaker got the start again on Sunday and posted 2 hits, 1 walk and 1 RBI. He’s now at .400 for the season. The clip below show that Coach Mike isn’t playing. Grichuk is going to have to take back the belt.
Matheny on Hazelbaker: "Just love the way he goes about it. … He's going to keep getting more opportunities."https://t.co/u2ZPDhQcUQ

That pitching, tho.
The pen has been great. The starters have not been. If you’re looking for the true silver lining of this first road trip, it’s that the Cardinals WILL get better starting pitching as the season goes along. That’s going to help everything.
Adam Wainwright done after five innings. He matches his career high with five walks, last done vs. Atlanta on May 12, 2012. #stlcards
