So there’s this one play that many residents of St. Louis remember:
Hard to believe that we’re approaching the 5 year anniversary of that moment, but here we are.
It’s taken a while, but in 2016 it looks like the whole state of Texas has apparently banded together to make sure that we don’t get nice things anymore.
The year started with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones becoming the attack dog for the Rams move to Los Angeles:
Before the meeting ended, Jones, as would be his habit, took control. He delivered a rollicking, profanity-laced eight-minute endorsement of Kroenke’s monumental vision, saying in his Arkansas drawl that whichever owner returned to Los Angeles, he needed to have “big balls.”
It was awkward and hilarious. Everyone, including Kroenke, tried not to laugh. But it was also a welcomed sentiment for the new-money owners such as Dan Snyder of the Redskins and Jeffrey Lurie of the Eagles, who backed Inglewood. “If you want to do it right,” Jones continued, “you have to step up.”
Then the Dallas Stars pushed the Blues to 7 games in the Western Conference semi-finals, draining the tank, and allowing for the San Jose Sharks to thoroughly dismantle any hopes the team had of playing for a Stanley Cup without much of a fight.
And now, after 3 games against the Astros and Rangers, the Cardinals stand at 0-3 and have tossed back any momentum they gained from a great road trip the week prior. (Side: you may think I know nothing about baseball and you very may well be right… but I can tell you that being 15-19 at home isn’t good.)
Texas is a great state with many wonderful cities and lovely people.
But – kindly – on behalf of everyone in St. Louis, thank you very little for everything this year. We’d prefer to just be left alone.
