15 Games That Will Decide The National Champion: Oklahoma State at Texas A&M

The journey to the 2011/2012 National Championship Game will be a long road. It will start in Arlington and Atlanta in week one of the college football season and then move on to Tallahassee in week three. Week four is our most defining look so far at shaping the National Championship Game. First there is Arkansas at Alabama. Another game that week that will have ramifications is LSU traveling to Morgantown, West Virginia. The third game of week four is game between two teams that weren’t even in the National thought process before 2010 but with a strong year last year they both have revived hopes.

OKLAHOMA STATE COWBOYS AT TEXAS A&M AGGIES

When: September 24th

Where: Kyle Field in College Station, Texas

Nobody benefited more from the downfall of the Texas Longhorns last year than did these two teams. Neither team was picked to do anything last year but both teams finished in the Top 25. In 2010, with Jerrod Johnson at the helm the Aggies started 3-3. After Texas A&M made the switch to Ryan Tannehill they reeled off six straight wins to close out their season (prior a loss in the bowl game). During this stretch the Aggies twice knocked off a top 10 team as they beat Oklahoma and Nebraska. A&M fell to LSU at their bowl game but they come into 2011 as one of the hottest teams college football.

Almost everybody had Oklahoma State picked to finish 5th or 6th in the Big 12 South last year. But a funny thing happened, the Cowboys didn’t listen to the critics and just kept winning football games. Their only two losses last year came at the hands of Nebraska and Oklahoma and both were within 10 points. The biggest question for the Cowboys is if they can sustain their offensive success without Dana Holgerson, who has moved on to West Virginia.

These two teams met four games into the 2010 season and Oklahoma State came away with a three point victory. It was Jerrod Johnson who threw a late interception that resulted in a game winning field goal for the Cowboys. This year it’s a whole new ball game and it’s Ryan Tannehill who will be throwing the ball for the Aggies. This game is big for the Big 12 as the winner of this game will be the frontrunner to challenge the Sooners for the Big 12 championship and after that who knows.
