College Football season is coming. You can really feel it this week as we started off the week going on the In The Bleachers podcast with Michael Felder to talk about my Georgia Bulldogs. In addition to that huge news, there is also a little thing going on this week called SEC Media Days. Let’s take a trip around the interweb and see what some of our favorite websites were talking about this week:
– One of our favorite blogs is the Ohio State/West Virginia combo blog Eye and Eer. They have really been cranking out some good college football stuff this off-season and this week they talked about 25 Teams Who Will Lose More Games Than Last Season. Man was I glad my Dawgs didn’t make that list! Who did? Not surprisingly…Auburn, Nevada and Ohio State. A bit more of a surprise? Boise State and Mississippi State. But we won’t give it all away here, click on the linky and you can discover the rest for yourself.
– We already mentioned him but Michael Felder discussed SEC Expansion this week after Mike Slive boasted that he could expand his conference in about 15 minutes if he so desired as he left forth an evil cackle. Michael has his choices and I added a comment to his blog to voice my opinion. We even discussed this prior to the Expansion talk getting heated back up this week in a post from Brandon last week.
– I’ve been checking out a lot of College Football Podcasts lately and have to say that I have been very impressed with the work being done by Ty and Dan over at The Solid Verbal. Despite the fact that their rooting interests are Notre Dame and Oregon (I really don’t have anything against Oregon other than their love for Willie Lyles and his out-dated recruiting data) they run a really informative and fluid show, have some great guests and put together a very professional sounding show. Make sure you check that one out. Some of the other ones I’ve been listening to lately include the aforementioned In The Bleachers, No 2 Minute Warning, Blatant Homerism and Aaron Torres. Make some time for College Football Podcasts in your life!
– Friend of the Blog Matt Elder recently started up a scouting site called BuffaloBillsDraft.com. Now before you College Football Zealots out there dismiss this site because it’s a “pro” site or it’s a “Bills” site let me tell you that he already has some fantastic stuff on his site specifically about College Football. He’s got a couple of posts about rising SEC Seniors that he sees as sleepers in next years draft. He profiles both the SEC East and the SEC West. For our fans of the Aggies, Spartans, and Arizona Wildcats he talks about the top Senior QBs. And for Big Ten fans he breaks down the 2010 game between Northwestern and Michigan State and give us some insight onto the performance of rising Seniors in that game. Trust me when I tell you that this is a site to watch.
– One site I try to go to on a daily basis is the Leather Helmet Blog. They always have great info on the Georgia Bulldogs and this week was no different. Probably my favorite post this week was when they broke down the difference between the schemes of former Georgia OL Coach Stacy Searles (and current Texas OL coach…sorry guys!) and current Georgia OL Coach Will Friend. I’m not a big X’s and O’s fan but this was just a really good and informative read.
That’s what we were busy reading this week. I hope you take the time and visit those sites as well and start to get geeked up for the College Football season. Don’t forget to come back each Sunday to read my “This Week in College Football” column where I review the biggest news from the past week and give some opinions, analysis and occassionally receive some hate mail. Until then I leave you with a couple of Aaron Murray quotes….
On incoming freshman RB Isaiah Crowell: “He has all the talent in the world. Everybody knows that. When we go out there and do drills, he’s more talented than I’ve seen in a while at running back. I mean, he can do it all. It’s just how much he can learn and how much of the playbook he can handle”
On incoming freshman WR Malcolm Mitchell: “I haven’t seen speed and quickness like that for a while. The other day he ran a post pattern and split our starting safety and one of our starting corners. Shawn Williams came up to me afterward and he’s like, ‘Aaron, I’ve never seen somebody with that kind of speed before…The thing I like about him most is he works harder than anyone. I would say he knows already 70 to 80 percent of the playbook. He’s been studying every day. Every day after pass drills he’ll get with me and we’ll work on routes a half-hour or 45 minutes. That’s every day. Three times a week he’ll call me and say, ‘let’s go work on routes; let’s go do this and that.’”
