Ten College Football Websites We Love The Most

As a college football blogger I appreciate the time and passion that goes into writing and following a team, a conference or just college football in general. I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while and with the college football season beginning there is no better time than the present. These are the college football websites that I (as well as Tom from the Recruiting Eagle) visit on a daily basis, as our schedule permits, and the sites that I think you should check out if you haven’t already. The first three of these websites were submitted by Tom and the last seven by myself (but that doesn’t mean I don’t love the first three!).

HolyTurf.com

The guy that runs it was formerly an academic advisor at Baylor and Arkansas. One of the best features of this website is the “Road Trips” where they “scour the country for the best local eateries in each college town, where to see the best tailgating on game day, the stadium experience, what Greek life looks like, the traditions unique to each university, and glancing at church options on Sunday morning after the big game as we explore the passion of college football.” They also have a part of their website designed just for women. Overall, it’s a very diverse and passionate website and we appreciate that here at CFBZ.

EDSBS- Every Day Should Be Saturday

This is, at least what I consider to be, the college football flagship of the SB Nation blogs. Their tag-line is “because college football is too important to be left to the professionals.” They are home to the Fulmer Cup and recently had one of their writers, Holly Anderson, hired by Sports Illustrated to write their Campus Union blog. What other college football blog has been out on the high seas with the Pirate Mike Leach and lived to tell about it?

Southern Pigskin

Tom: This site has come a long way. Obviously, I love the SEC focus and since I am trapped in ACC territory I don’t mind that coverage.

Kevin: Simply go to this site’s “about” page and look down the list of writers that this site offers. It’s an impressive list. I’m sure once you’ve seen it you too will start visiting this site if you aren’t already.

Dr Saturday

I’m sure this is news to nobody as Dr Saturday is one of the premier college football blogs/websites on the net. With Yahoo beefing up their sports coverage and college football coverage (Charles Robinson and Dan Wetzel say hello) over the last few years this site will do nothing but continue to grow and be one of the spots for college football fans to visit over the coming years. Matt Hinton leads the way for this site but we also have a spot in our heart for Jim Weber of Lost Lettermen.

Team Speed Kills

This is another SB Nation blog and it is their appropriately named SEC flagship blog. Led by the myserious three-headed monster of cocknfire, Year2 and kleph these guys bring solid year-round coverage of my, and your (just admit it!), favorite conference the SEC.

Solid Verbal

In total honesty I don’t visit the website as much as I should but this is my absolute favorite podcast. And I just started listening to it this summer by recommendation of our friend, Michael Felder. For my money, or pocket lint since it’s free on Itunes, these guys deliver the goods every time out. It’s a very professional sounding podcast and Dan and Ty play off of each other very well. As if that’s not enough they have great guests on every week and deliver multiple shows per week. Dan and Ty are one of my go-to listens on the long drive to work each morning. I can even over-look that they cheer for Notre Dame and Oregon.

In The Bleachers

When I started up this blog, Michael was kind enough to come on and answer some questions about his days at North Carolina. Since then we’ve had him help us out with our preview of North Carolina and he’s even been kind enough to let us come on his podcast twice this summer (which along with the Solid Verbal is among my favorites). Michael’s website provides a great perspective from a guy that played the game and also brings the fun with his Fetch Fridays.

Crystal Ball Run

This is one of the new “feature” blogs that Bloguin has started and it’s a keeper. When I first heard the name of this new blog I didn’t like it. Then I took a look at the website banner and I got it. Aaron Torres of Aaron Torres Sports and Alan Kenney of Blatant Homerism take the lead as the Managing Editors of the site and they bring along some of Bloguin’s best with them for the ride. The aforementioned Michael Felder of In The Bleachers, the much traveled Kevin McGuire and Tom Perry of the great Eye and Eer blog provide great weekly content for their readers and this is hands down the best new blog on the internet.

Leather Helmet Blog

This is my homer pick so if you aren’t a fan of the Dawgs then tread carefully. No offense meant to the guys at Dawg Sports, Georgia Sports Blog, Get the Picture or our buddy Bernie. They all run fantastic sites that I enjoy visiting but the guys over at LHB hold a special place in my heart. They were one of the first sites out there to notice us and they have helped us out a bit on the way. ECDawg and Socrates and the rest of the crew over there are definitely a daily visit for me.

Twitter

And last but not least, Twitter. Yes, the Twitter Machine. But it’s not a college football site?!? Twitter is anything you want it to be. Twitter is an interactive social media site in which you can decide if you want to be a wallflower and just take in everything around you or if you want to join in the conversation. You can follow players and coaches to get the inside scoop if you want to. You can follow the big sites like ESPN, Sports Illustrated, etc to get their take. Or you could just follow their best writers. You can follow local beat reporters from your team and your opponents. You can follow bloggers that blog about your team or your bitter enemy. You can even follow fans and friends and have conversations with other tweeters while you are watching a game. You can even find great websites and articles by searching twitter or just taking a look at what is in your feed. Twitter is what you make it and for me I’ve met a lot of great people on the Twitter Machine and would be sad to see it go away.

So there you go, the CFBZ Top 10 College Football Websites that we love (well at least that Tom and I love). If you want to add anybody to our list then shoot us a comment below or an e-mail at collegefootballzealot at gmail.com and if we get a good enough response we might just post our readers favorites in a separate article.
