CFBZ “Detmer Award” Week Two Ballot

I got invited earlier this summer to take part in our friend Kyle Kensing’s “Detmer Award” over at Saturday Blitz. What exactly is the “Detmer Award”? Here is how he describes it:

The five non-BCS conferences and 75 percent of the independents are differentiated from the Big Six in virtually every other facet, so it only makes sense the best players from this subdivision-subdivision have an award for its best player. Just as fitting is for this honor to bear the name of the last player from one of these universities to win college football’s top honor, 1990 Heisman winner and BYU quarterback Ty Detmer. SaturdayBlitz.com will track this completely exclusive field’s progress throughout the season.

We are honored to be asked to vote on this award alongside such great bloggers like Patrick Johnson from Big East Coast Bias, the guys from the Upset Blog, the Navy Bird Dog, and Kevin McGuire of the National Football Examiner (and virtually every other college football blog on the internet) among others. Here is what the group came up with for it’s week one results and here were mine in case you need a refresher. Also, if you are a fan of awards check out week one of the Bloguin Heisman Poll that I am hosting.

Here is my week two ballot based on game performance and remember, this is a week by week voting. We are not voting on their cumulative play for the entire season. Points are given each week and the one with the most points at the end of the year will get the award. Ex: since Kellen Moore didn’t play this week, he is not eligible to be voted for:

1. Eric Page, WR, Toledo

Page was best player on the field when Rockets attempted their upset bid of the Buckeyes. The Rockets fell short but Page had a great game including TD receptions of 6 and 66 yards from two different QBs. Page finished the day with 12 receptions for 145 yards and 2 TDs. He also had 65 yards on two kick returns.

2. T.Y. Hilton, WR, FIU

Had seven catches for 201 yards as his team won a 24-17 game at Louisville. In the second quarter he was responsible for two straight scores (on catches of 74 and 83 yards) to put FIU up 21 to 3 and help spur them on to victory. He also had two kick returns for 67 (an average of 33.5 yards per return).

3. Eugene Cooper, WR, Bowling Green

They might have played Morgan State but Cooper still had a very impressive outing. 6 receptions for 134 yards and 4 TDs! Yeah, I’ll take that.
