CFBZ Bloguin Heisman Ballots

As the college football season gets deeper and deeper into action the Heisman Trophy picture always begins to clear up. We aren’t at that point yet but the Bloguin Heisman Poll that I am running over at Crystal Ball Run this year definitely took a step towards that this week as Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson definitely started to step out from the pack. Our Big East guy, Pete Sonski, and I both have votes on the Poll so I thought I would share with you how we voted this week in Week Five of the Bloguin Heisman Poll:

Pete Sonski:

#1 Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

The highlight-real performances that showcased some candidates in the early season games are less likely now to affect the final outcome. The preseason favorite continues put up good stats weekly. He’s on a steady course to earn the stiff-arm trophy December 10.

#2 Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina

Considering how ineffective South Carolina QB Stephen Garcia has been so far, opponents will key on stopping Lattimore. The sophomore tailback had his first pedestrian performance of the season last week against Auburn in the Gamecocks first loss. Kentucky this week will learn whether his meager 66 yards and 1 TD were a fluke.

#3 Russell Wilson, QB, Wisconsin

Wilson makes my list for the first time after a terrific performance against Nebraska. The Badgers have a week off before facing woeful Indiana. Look for Wilson’s stock to stay strong until a tough road test against Michigan State October 22.

Kevin:

#1 Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

TR may not have started out hot but boy has he shown up in Bama’s two toughest games. He put up 7.41 ypc against Arkansas and delivered the goods against Will Muschamp and the Gators with 181 yards on the ground and 2 TDs. He only had 37 yards rushing in his first game of the season but is still the 4th leading rusher in the NCAA. Out of that top four he has the best ypc and has the most TDs.

#2 Russell Wilson, QB, Wisconsin

I thought Russell Wilson would be a really good addition to Wisconsin this year but I had no idea he would be this good. Last week he put up 250+ yards passing with 2 passing TDs and ran for one in the Badgers beat down of the Cornhuskers. For the year, he is completing 74% of his passes and has 13 passing TDs (also 2 on the ground) against only 1 INT. The Badgers are now the clear front runner for the Big Ten Title and Wilson is the major reason why.

#3 Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

I know Baylor lost last week but the Heisman Trophy is an individual award and RG3 is playing like the best player (and most valuable player) in the country right now. He is completing a ridiculous 82.3% of his passes and has an outrageous TD to INT ratio of 18:1. As the Bears get into the tougher part of their schedule RG3 will probably fade a bit as a Heisman Candidate but I can’t think of a player in college football that means more to his team than RG3.
