It’s been a while since I’ve done this but I really enjoy going to other blogs and college football sites and seeing what they are talking about. Join me on this journey around some of my favorite college football sites:
– Kyle Kensing of Saturday Blitz talks about the best QB/WR combo’s in college football:
Robert Griffin III & Kendall Wright, Baylor
Sensing a theme here? The Big 12 Conference’s future may be uncertain, but its present is punctuated with some of the most exciting offenses in the nation. Robert Griffin III has tossed 18 touchdown passes this season and done an effective job spreading the wealth, but Kendall Wright has proven himself the clear favorite target. The tone was set when Wright caught three passes on BU’s opening drive of the season, and hauled in RG3′s first scoring strike on that very series.
– Jay Beck over at Turfburner talks about Missouri and them exploring options:
There is no factual basis behind the following whatsoever, but there are those who believe that Missouri doesn’t have much interest in the SEC, but rather is testing the waters to see if the Big Ten may have an interest in adding the Tigers after taking a flyer last summer. After all, what happens if Mizzou does turn over their media rights to the Big 12 for an extended period and then the Big Ten calls a couple years down the road?
– Kris Brauner of Saturday Night Slant writes up a piece on the best SEC teams during the BCS era for Crystal Ball Run:
LSU and Florida both have a pair of national championships. They also tie for the lead with three SEC championships each.mBut it’s LSU and Georgia who have had the most Top-10 finishes, each finishing with six. Florida tops the league with five BCS bowl wins. And if it’s consistency you crave, the Gators are the only program to not have a losing season during the BCS era.
– Leftover Hot Dog talks about Connor Shaw taking over as the South Carolina QB this week:
This is a good thing and by no means is the complete answer so don’t expect a miracle but it should add a different flare to the offense. Shaw (6’1″ 204 lbs.) is a coaches son so he is knowledgeable of the game and is a good runner. He knows the plays just needs experience in executing them.
We as fans of the USC program need to rally behind Shaw now. Support him and don’t boo him if he makes a mistake. We stood by and watched Stephen Garcia throw six interceptions in two games so let’s give the young guy a chance.
– Our buddies over at The Leather Helmet Blog take a look at Georgia’s no huddle offense and how it is adversly affecting the Dawgs:
You may recall that after the Coastal Carolina game and during the week leading up to Ole Miss game, the coaching staff were patting themselves on the backs about the “No Huddle’ offense giving us an average of 10-15 more plays per game and this was resulting in us scoring more points. Well I guess if you include the South Carolina game and the Coastal Carolina game you could make that argument. Would you make the same argument now after seeing us against Ole Miss and Mississippi State? You might be hard pressed to convince our fans to drink that kool-aid anymore. Scoring 51 points combined (almost entirely in the first half) in these two games and huffing and puffing by the second half, the question must be examined, why continue with the no huddle?
How does this tie into this weekend’s game you may be asking. Other than the fact I find it interesting to examine in-state kids who leave for other state schools, I firmly believe that if the Vols have a shot at winning this weekend vs. the Dawgs, Da’Rick Rogers will have to explode for huge numbers. The Volunteer defense is certainly not at the top of the SEC pack; nor is their running game. During the meat of the Volunteer schedule, they are going to win and lose games based on how far the passing game can take them.
