Monday College Football Recruiting Links

It’s just about time for National Signing Day as it’s just around the corner on Wednesday the 1st. We’ve spent some time this off-season looking at recruiting as we’ve highlighted the Top 15 SEC verbal commits, the top overall 100 recruits and the top un-committed recruits. Let’s take a look at some of the most recent “breaking” information in recruiting:

Leather Helmet Blog: Socrates Updates UGA Recruiting:

Less than 48 hours now begins the National Signing Day. So who will, who won’t……who might?  This is what we would all like to know.  Some very large targets remain and these are almost too close to call, but of course it is no fun to have a recruiting blog without taking a stab, right?

Sheldon Dawson, of Memphis TN came back from a weekend at Ole Miss and is likely to announce today.  My thoughts are and have been UGA and I will stick with that.

Subway Domer: Staring at the Finish Line:

Notre Dame is staring at a big doughnut for signing day. That’s not a bad thing if your class is full, but it looks as if ND still has at least 3 spots it could fill. Those three spots are HUGE when they needed to be filled by at least one CB and one more WR.

Blatant Homerism: DGB to (Insert School Name Here):

DGB and his family have doled out information about the coveted receiver’s intentions judiciously. When DGB and his father, who has acted as a gatekeeper throughout the process, have given interviews, they haven’t dodged questions, but they haven’t revealed much.

The Duck Stops Here: Ducks Land Arik Armstead in Sunday Ceremony:

Elk Grove, California defensive lineman Arik Armstead, a 6-8, 285-lb. five-star player recruited by schools from USC to Auburn, put on an Oregon hat at his verbal commit ceremony held at his family’s home church just about an hour ago.

Armstead has graduated from high school and intends to enroll early. He’s physical, quick and gifted, an extremely strong defender who also excelled as an offensive tackle but wants to play defensive end and power forward in college, intending to double on Dana Altman’s basketball squad.

The Pitt Script Blog: Shuffling Recruits as Signing Day Approaches:

It seems every time Chryst and Company snag a new recruit, they lose one to go along with him. That was the case this weekend as Pitt landed a verbal commit from Wisconsin offensive lineman Gabe Roberts. Roberts is unranked by all the major services and appeared headed for a walk-on spot at UW until Pitt offered a scholarship.

Leftover Hot Dog: Will USC turn Chris Moody:

Moody (McDonough, Ga./Henry County) is a Vanderbilt commitment but he is not strong with that. USC has been pursuing the 3-star athelete and recently got him to make an official visit to South Carolina this past weekend. Good thing too as the Gamecocks are squarely in the mix to sign him on Wednesday, which is national signing day.

Checkerboard Chatter: Patrick Willis gives me hope for National Signing Day:

Secondly, the Patrick Willis story tells me this.  The recruiting gurus and college coaches aren’t always right about a kid.  Scout.com had Patrick Willis ranked as a two-star player coming out of high school, not exactly the type of kid that fans get super excited about.  He wasn’t even ranked at his position per the Scout website.  Patrick’s home state Volunteers didn’t offer so he took his talents down to Oxford, MS, where he excelled to say the least.
